Having invented a game called Canon: The Card Game<\/a>, I\u2019m inevitably going to keep returning to the subject of canon over and over again. But as you\u2019ll see below, interesting images, books, articles, videos, and calls for papers keep highlighting the subject and calling me back to it. And in this particular instance, it isn\u2019t just canon in general but precisely the intersection of the canons of Star Wars and Christianity that have been prominent.<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\nThen I saw <a href=\"https:\/\/seanguynes.com\/2018\/08\/19\/cfp-star-wars-tv\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a call for paper specifically about works that are at the fringes of the Star Wars canon<\/a> \u2013 here\u2019s an excerpt to whet your appetite:<\/p>\n<blockquote>Star Wars TV: Transmedia Worlds, Franchise Politics, and Televisual Culture<\/i>\u00a0seeks essays that offer critical insight into the televisual culture and transmedia politics of the Star Wars franchise as it spread across TV beginning with the\u00a0Star Wars Holiday Special<\/i>\u00a0in 1978 and continuing to the present array of shows in the Disney era. This collection takes as its basic premise that the televisual entrants into the Star Wars transmedia storyworld are both important texts in the history of American and global media culture and also key to understanding how the Star Wars media empire\u2014and, thus, industry-wide transmedia storytelling strategies themselves\u2014developed. Previous work on Star Wars has emphasized the films, fandom, Campbellian myth criticism, and occasional discussions of storyworld expansion in games, comics, and novels, while charting the politics of race, gender, sexuality, and imperialism in individual texts.\u00a0Star Wars TV<\/i>\u00a0expands previous work on the transmedia franchise to consider television studies and sharp cultural and political criticism together in an effort to bring long-ignored texts, like the\u00a0Holiday Special<\/i>\u00a0and the 1980s\u00a0Droids<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Ewoks<\/i>\u00a0cartoons, and long-running popular series, like\u00a0The Clone Wars<\/i>, to bear on the franchise\u2019s complex history, storyworld, and politics.<\/p><\/blockquote>\nThere was also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/lovejoyfeminism\/2018\/09\/when-are-young-earth-creationists-like-star-wars-fans\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">an interesting post on how young-earth creationists discuss science not at all the way scientists discuss science, but very much the way Star Wars fans discuss how things work in the Star Wars universe<\/a>.<\/p>\nI also learned about the forthcoming book <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2PwCRU4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\">The Myth Re-awakens: Canon, Conservatism, and Fan Reception of Star Wars<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\nAlso related to this topic:<\/p>\nhttp:\/\/www.internetmonk.com\/archive\/82468<\/p>\nAnd finally, don\u2019t miss <a href=\"https:\/\/io9.gizmodo.com\/heres-the-first-trailer-for-the-next-star-wars-animated-1828416200\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the new addition to the Star Wars canon: the new animated series, Resistance<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Having invented a game called Canon: The Card Game, I\u2019m inevitably going to keep returning to the subject of canon over and over again.
