Even if I didn\u2019t have anything else to add to the whole Jim West as #1 biblioblogger discussion, I would have posted anyway, to stake my claim to the fantastic pun on that subject which serves as the title to this post.<\/p>\n

But as it happens, Dan McClellan has started a new blog dedicated to the top ten bibliobloggers<\/a>\u00a0to be\u00a0selected by vote, chosen by the bibliobloggers themselves.<\/p>\n

I think this has a useful function to complement traffic-based ranking, since the fact that a blog gets many hits<\/em> doesn\u2019t necessarily indicate that it is getting read carefully and thoroughly<\/em>, much less that its content is particularly appreciated. And so having multiple systems of ranking using different methods is presumably a good thing.<\/p>\n

And of course, one thing Jim West and I agree on is that this whole ranking business should not be taken too seriously. And another thing we agree on is that it is a lot<\/em> of fun to pretend to take them seriously! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n
