I received this e-mail from the NCSE<\/a>, which I assume the author will not mind me reproducing here in order to get the word out as quickly and effectively as possible:<\/p>\n

Dear Indiana NCSE members and friends,<\/p>\n

As you probably know Senate Bill 89, which would permit the teaching of \u201ccreation science\u201d in Indiana science classes was approved by the Senate Education and Career Development committee last Wednesday on an 8-2 vote.<\/p>\n

The bill is now on the agenda for the Senate\u2019s next meeting, Monday January 30, which convenes at 2:00 pm.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not too late to contact your senator and express your opinion about this bill. At this point the best method would be a phone call to your senator\u2019s office rather than an email which may not be read until after the vote. Most legislators keep track of contacts from constituents, even if it\u2019s just a count of the numbers supporting or opposing some measure.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need to talk to a person, just leave a brief message on the office voice mail system. You can call over the weekend. Don\u2019t wait until Monday, unless you don\u2019t receive this message until then.<\/p>\n

We suggest that you just give your name and town [so they know you live in their district], say that you are calling in regard to SB 89 on Monday\u2019s agenda, that you oppose the bill and hope they will vote against it.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need to give a detailed reason for opposing the bill. If you want to give a brief reason, we recommend pointing out that public schools already can teach ABOUT religious concepts in appropriate classes, that \u201ccreation science\u201d has repeatedly been ruled unconstitutional, and that passing this bill will only lead to unnecessary lawsuits and costs to the taxpayers in any district which carries it through.<\/p>\n
