Beth Mardutho: The Syriac Institute [www.bethmardutho.org<\/a>] announces six Digital Humanities Fellowships and two Syriac language courses to be offered in the summer of 2020.<\/p>\n

Digital Humanities Fellowships<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Institute invites graduate students and recent graduates to apply for Digital Humanities Fellowships. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work on the Institute\u2019s projects including the newly launched Simtho Syriac Thesaurus [simtho.bethmardutho.org<\/a>] including computational tagging of texts, the Syriac Electronic-Data Research Archive [sedra.bethmardutho.org<\/a>], the Qoruyo project for developing models for Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and developing the eBethArke online library.<\/p>\n

Candidates must have done at least one year of Syriac, are enrolled in a graduate program (Master or Ph.D.), or are recent graduates. Non-academic candidates from within the Syriac-using tradition who know Classical Syriac are also encouraged to apply and will be introduced to the world of Syriac academia.<\/p>\n

The successful candidates will receive a stipend that can be used towards accommodation or travel, a Gorgias press book grant, and free admission to the summer Syriac course program (Syriac II described below). Successful candidates may choose to complete the Fellowship (12 weeks during May-August) at the Institute or, if travel is prohibitive, at their current institution provided that they are available daily during the term of the Fellowship via Skype.<\/p>\n
