In my class on the historical Jesus yesterday we discussed the burial of Jesus, including some discussion<\/a> of<\/a> the<\/a> Talpiot tomb<\/a>. Here\u2019s what\u2019s been appearing in the blogosphere<\/a> since my last round-up on the topic:<\/p>\n

$\"\"$ Mark Goodacre shows problems with the claim that Jonah\u2019s name appears on an ossuary in the Talpiot patio tomb<\/a>. He also discusses the transformation of a vase into a fish<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bob Cargill took Mark\u2019s point further and added additional images analyzing the marks on the ossuary<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jim Davila also blogged about the subject<\/a>, as did Edward Cook<\/a>,\u00a0 and Antonio Lombatti gathered names of scholars and their views on the matter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

James Tabor makes the case on his blog for finding Jonah\u2019s name in the image on the ossuary<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, various sites such as Phys.org<\/a>,\u00a0 LiveScience<\/a> and MSNBC<\/a> are hyping these conclusions. Bob Cargill describes the alleged evidence they are drawing on as a case of \u201ccircular citations.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Michael Heiser posted on the topic<\/a>, and also on James Tabor\u2019s post about resurrection<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mike Kok\u2019s round-up of Gospel posts also touches on the Talpiot tombs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

UPDATE: Since I first posted this round-up, several more posts<\/a> have appeared on blogs I read:<\/p>\n

Joel Watts linked<\/a> to a post at Life\u2019s Little Mysteries suggesting that the alleged inscription of the name Jonah is just random squiggles<\/a>. Joel also responded<\/a> to a post by April de Conick, leaning in the direction of seeing Jonah on the ossuary and viewing it as symbolic of the resurrection<\/a>.<\/p>\n
