So for now I\u2019ll content myself with the output of others, such as Jeremy Walker, who has set seven of the Psalms in the Bible in a jazz idiom in an impressive way. Have a listen and enjoy. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jeremywalkermusic.com\/7-psalms\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Read more on the composer\u2019s website<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2XvIVmS\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">buy the album on Amazon.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after learning about these Seven Psalms, I came across another work, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3czOKUR\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Seven Heavens<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jameswhitbourn.com\/music\/printedworks\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">James Whitbourn<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/landofllostcontent.blogspot.com\/2020\/04\/james-whitbourn-choral-music-on-divine.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The British Music Blog: The Land of Lost Content<\/a> was what drew it to my attention, in a <a href=\"http:\/\/landofllostcontent.blogspot.com\/2020\/04\/james-whitbourn-choral-music-on-divine.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">post<\/a> that indicated that the piece is inspired by <a href=\"https:\/\/thewayofimprovement.com\/2020\/04\/20\/c-s-lewis-courage-is-not-simply-one-of-the-virtues-but-the-form-of-every-virtue-at-the-testing-point\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">C. S. Lewis<\/a>\u2018 writings about the planets. For instance:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/83232002&amp;color=%23ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false&amp;show_teaser=true&amp;visual=true\" width=\"100%\" height=\"300\" frameborder=\"no\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Returning to the Psalms, here is an orchestral \u201cSong of Ascent\u201d:<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HxCNeYUGYK0<\/p>\n<p>Bryan Bibb shared a YouTube video of a lecture of his on reading the Psalms with U2. It\u2019s not just \u201c40\u201d which I always include a mention of if not more in my class on the Bible and music (and have also included in worship in my church).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"10b: Reading the Psalms with U2\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Cg3FS9k3nsg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Also, there\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forwardfaith.org\/the-trail\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a setting of Psalm 23 called \u201cThe Trail\u201d<\/a> that is part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forwardfaith.org\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Keith Sanford\u2019s Faith Forward progressive Christian music project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Trail\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0elN9Wi8FBs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I also happened across <a href=\"https:\/\/psaltermark.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the blog of Psalter Mark<\/a>, a self-proclaimed \u201cpsalm addict.\u201d Sometime soon I\u2019ll try to have a long conversation with my former student Aaron Abrahamson Cote about his new <a href=\"https:\/\/rhcp0617.wixsite.com\/songsofscripture?fbclid=IwAR2yFhUXhOeEyyOR2-iFnRqMbrgVwklhr4nLg8Cbfje1I-cdfrd1cqUHG1I\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Songs of Scripture project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One more piece loosely based on the Psalms, by Kevin Walczyk. It\u2019s title is \u201cEloi, Eloi,\u201d and thus it is derived from the version of Jesus\u2019 words in the Gospels which give the opening of Psalm 22 in Aramaic. <a href=\"https:\/\/kevelimusic.com\/portfolio-item\/eloi-eloi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\">The composer rather strangely says the words are Arabic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NfeYPoCGU1E\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>More music of the Heavens from Peter Schat, striking because it involves 12 variations, rather than the seven heavens. This is presumably due to the twelve tones of the Western scale, and Schat\u2019s development of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toneclock.org\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201ctone clock\u201d<\/a> as a way of exploring this through a set of twelve trichords.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/drCkoX3XCI8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Only tangentially related, <a href=\"https:\/\/tif.ssrc.org\/2020\/04\/15\/sing-hallelujah-to-the-lord\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Immanent Frame has a piece on the way that the song \u201cSing Hallelujah to the Lord\u201d became the anthem of the protests in Hong Kong<\/a>. Any appearance of the word Hallelujah can be linked at least in a very general way to the Psalms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chrisglaser.blogspot.com\/2020\/04\/rage-to-ecstasy-praying-psalms.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Chris Glaser shared \u201cRage to Ecstasy: Praying the Psalms.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Psalms also get a mention in this quote from N. T.
