This conference seeks to bring together a range of perspectives on topics including ethnicity, disability, class, gender, sex and other identity markers in relation to the body, the Bible, and the divine. In a world that is increasingly politically polarised and that endangers the lives and bodies of those who seek to disrupt the status quo, we recognise there is an urgent need to confront these issues in an academic setting in a virtual environment. We welcome proposals for papers (max. 20 mins) on the broad topic of Divine Bodies in relation to the Bible and the biblical world including historical, contemporary and reception-based approaches. Interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to the topics are especially welcome. Suggested themes include, but are not limited to:

Postcolonial and ethnically diverse bodies

Representations of God and divine beings

Protesting bodies, rebelling bodies and dissenting bodies

The body of the Church

LGBTQ+ perspectives on biblical and/or religious bodies

Fertility, infertility, childbirth and parenthood

Childhood and adolescence

Disease, illness and the body

Embodiment, the land and earth

Socioeconomically marginalised bodies, and impoverished bodies

Disability, mental health and able-bodiedness

Intersections of gender theory and/or queer theory and the Bible

Religion, trauma and the body

Representations of biblical bodies and divine bodies in art, literature and modern cultural products

Please send abstracts (maximum 300 words) and a short bio to: Zanne.Domoney-Lyttle@Glasgow.ac.uk and Sarah.Nicholson@Glasgow.ac.uk by November 30th, 2020.
