Modalities of Fantasy: Reconfiguring Time and Space<\/strong><\/p>\n

Domain of the Fantastic is the ground for physical, biological, and metaphysical riddles about the architecture of perceived natural order of \u2018life\u2019 which re-organizes readers\u2019 world to forge novel experiences of reality. Immediacy of the domain of Fantasy becomes relevant as a radical Other of our pandemic-hit reality\u2014which is forcing us to make sense of the present world and devise new meanings\u2014by introducing alternate perspectives on human condition that edge on becoming the normative. The production and reception of Fantasy narratives, as the Other, is driven by an immersive lure of fateful quest of an individual to redeem a crumbling community. Its built-in pluralistic vision\u2014at social, cultural, historical, and bodily levels\u2014catalyses its form against all fixed definites, and makes its relevance increasingly comprehensible in tackling the grim dystopic truths of our times as well as shaping our utopian desires. Both the generation of the fantasy narratives and the means of their operations determine the relations which are formed between an individual and his socio-economic and political conditions. Being theorized as political, fantasy narratives channelize the strategies of resistance and revolution, subversion and repression through their characteristic \u2018unreal\u2019 representations. The contextual placing of these unreal themes within fantasy texts, in the form of allegories, as such become the index of its functioning within the established ideological frameworks.<\/p>\n

The deployment of symbolically mediated structures within Fantasy reveal the possibilities of a new vocabulary and imagination to perceive the space-time continuum. The novel vocabulary looks at this continuum through the spectrum of individual experience and addresses the schism between one\u2019s particular experience of space-and-time, and the cosmological Space-Time manifold. This engagement refurbishes histories of communities and reconfigures geographical spaces through an individual\u2019s transportation into imagined futures and\/or alternate worlds. Such intrusion of subjective dimension within fantasy narratives reformulates pervasive experience of \u2018real\u2019 time that is commonly ordered as the standard structural platitudes of past, present, and future, and subsequently reconstitutes our understanding of its extension and intersections within vast spatial realms. One slant emerging from these reconstitutions is to form new relationships between readers\u2019 understanding of temporality with reference to their self, and then make them reflect upon human ambition to conquer time itself. The experiential dimension of time, acknowledged as an ever-going form of the emancipatory entity of change, then thresholds truths\u2014about fear of the unknown, encounters with the strange, and the sense of being abandoned\u2014to establish new interpretations of life.<\/p>\n

The call for papers for the current Issue focusses upon the broad brushstrokes through which fantasy constitutes a worldview in its negotiations with spatio-temporal order. Some suggested themes are as follows:<\/p>\n
