Synopsis<\/strong>: A number of anniversaries in 2021 \u2014 the tenth of the premiere of David Benioff and W.B. Weiss\u2019 television series,\u00a0Game of Thrones<\/em>, Tom Perrotta\u2019s novel,\u00a0The Leftovers<\/em>, and Terrence Malick\u2019s film,\u00a0The Tree of Life<\/em>, and the twentieth of Neil Gaiman\u2019s novel,\u00a0American Gods<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 is a provocative occasion for a critical reexamination of these and related parables at the intersection of the secular and the supernatural, in their original formulations and as they have developed subsequently. (A few additional examples, albeit not enjoying similar anniversaries, include, say,\u00a0The Dark Tower<\/em>,\u00a0Dune<\/em>,\u00a0Gilead<\/em>,\u00a0The Handmaid\u2019s Tale<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Testaments<\/em>,\u00a0His Dark Materials<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Book of Dust<\/em>,\u00a0Lost<\/em>,\u00a0Parable of the Sower<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Parable of the Talents<\/em>,\u00a0Raised by Wolves<\/em>, and\u00a0The Satanic Verses<\/em>.)\u00a0The intended panel\/roundtable will explore such a reexamination.<\/p>\n

All approaches are welcome.<\/p>\n

Submission guidelines<\/strong>: Please forward a detailed abstract, roughly three to five hundred words in length, together with a cv, by\u00a0December 30, 2020, to Trip McCrossin, Department of Philosophy, Rutgers University, at:\u00a0trip@mccrossin.org<\/a>. Selected participants will be added to the schedule by the Area\u2019s Chair. (Please do\u00a0not\u00a0<\/em>submit directly using the conference website\u2019s dedicated submission link, especially if you may want to present in other ways, in accordance with the following guidelines: \u201cOne person cannot be added to more than one paper proposal per conference. You may only send one proposal to one area at one time. If for some reason, your abstract is not accepted by an area, you may then send it to an alternative area. However, an individual may submit one creative work\u00a0or<\/strong>\u00a0be a part of one roundtable in addition to presenting a\u00a0paper\u201d (http:\/\/pcaaca.org\/conference\/submitting-paper-proposal-pca-conference<\/a>).<\/p>\n
