\"\"I can\u2019t understand why the only people who have been saying that God is judging the Republican party by throwing hurricane Isaac at their convention in recent days are people who are parodying<\/a><\/em> conservative Christians\u2019 typical rhetoric<\/a>. Where are the actual conservative Evangelical Protestant Christians who are willing to at least try to give an appearance of consistency?<\/p>\n

I mean seriously. Don\u2019t most conservative Christians view Mormonism<\/a> as a satanic lie, a distortion of Christianity? And given that Ayn Rand\u2019s philosophy<\/a> is Satanism without the ritual (to paraphrase the founder of Satanism<\/a>, Anton Lavey \u2013 see the quote at the end of this post), shouldn\u2019t conservative Christians at least be pretending to be outraged by not merely Paul Ryan\u2019s love of Rand<\/a>, but the entire party\u2019s willingness to be influenced by her teachings? Is Joe Carter the only person calling attention to this among conservative Christians<\/a>? And if so, why is he a lone voice? How can Pat Robertson<\/a> not treat this as a sign?<\/p>\n

I would love it if, as in the case of conservatives\u2019 discovery of their confirmation bias in the case of David Barton<\/a>, the quietness about the hurricane hitting Florida was an indication that a lightbulb had gone off, and all the rhetoric about Satan and storms was going to be revisited. Because personally I think such claims about divine judgment are misguided \u2013 spiritually, theologically, and meteorologically.<\/p>\n

But I had a depressing feeling that as soon as a storm hits a gathering of liberals, or now that Isaac seems to be veering towards New Orleans, it will be back to business as usual<\/a>. Is a little consistency too much to ask for?<\/p>\n
