Very Rev. Kim Coleman writes about this retreat, \u201cHistory buffs will enjoy learning about the original <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3wIyGcX\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Lift Every Voice and Sing: A Collection of African American Spirituals and Other Songs<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and was the precursor to the\u00a0<em>Lift Every Voice and Sing II<\/em>\u00a0hymnal many Episcopal parishes have in our pews,\u201d she said. \u201cOthers will enjoy the afternoon seminars, guided breakout sessions, affinity group gatherings, and empowering evening worship with highly acclaimed preachers and robust music.\u00a0There will be special programming each day for children and youth. We conclude the evening with singing and dance experiences that will make you think you have left the virtual platform.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Next, let me share some things that I\u2019ve come across recently. First, there is now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/ancient-hebrew-love-poetry-finds-new-audiences-on-youtube\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a YouTube channel dedicated to\u00a0ancient Hebrew love poetry set to music<\/a> (HT <a href=\"https:\/\/paleojudaica.blogspot.com\/2021\/07\/ancient-hebrew-love-poetry-on-youtube.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jim Davila<\/a>). Here is the Song of Songs as you\u2019ve never heard it before, performed by Hadar Nehemya:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qYpYzf3xlAc\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Composer Dinos Constantinides, whose music I have long had a great appreciation for, sadly has passed away. First, here is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagofilmarchives.org\/collections\/index.php\/Detail\/Object\/Show\/object_id\/16858\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">an archival recording of the ballet \u201cDaughter of Herodias\u201d choreographed by Ruth Page<\/a>. There is also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laut.de\/Various-Artists\/Songs\/John-The-Baptist-Rev.-Moses-Mason-643837\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a song by Rev. Moses Mason, \u201cJohn the Baptist\u201d<\/a> from the Anthology of American Folk Music.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6v_WxwCr-y0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Z_K_MYClKBQ&amp;t=452s\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Orthodox Church<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mWBYHyxo_7E\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Catholic Church<\/a> one will encounter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.singac.com\/uploads\/8\/7\/1\/4\/87147714\/john_the_baptist.pdf\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a hymn\u00a0<em>to<\/em> John the Baptist<\/a>.
