Congratulations are in order to my friend, composer Delvyn Case, who has been named the 2021 Distinguished Composer of the Year by the Music Teachers National Association, for his work \u201cPsalms of Ascent.\u201d You can listen to it here:<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tabletmag.com\/podcasts\/unorthodox\/episode-301-liz-lange-just-enough-family-delvyn-case-composer\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Tablet magazine has a podcast interview with Delvyn Case<\/a> about his cantata that I mentioned here previously, \u201cThe Binding of Isaac According to the Elohist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbl-site.org\/membership\/MemberSpotlight.aspx\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Society of Biblical Literature drew attention to the work of Nick Smolenski<\/a>. Also take a look at <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.duke.edu\/smolenski\/blog\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">his blog<\/a> for more.<\/p>\n<p>As I wait to hear the result of the peer review process, I\u2019ve continued adding additional works and links to my book on\u00a0<em>The Bible and Music<\/em>. I am always on the lookout for more music of this sort, and more music that I\u2019ll enjoy in general.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.milkenarchive.org\/music\/volumes\/view\/sing-unto-zion\/work\/hallel-service\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Milken Archive shared excerpts from Yehezkel Braun\u2019s Hallel service<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Egil Hovland\u2019s \u201cSaul\u201d features narration as well as choir and organ:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Saul, Op. 74\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FJizhGGQ1dY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s lots of music in other languages than English that sets biblical texts, of course.
