Over dinner I was discussing with friends <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/nationnow\/2011\/09\/pat-robertson-infuriates-faithful-with-alzheimers-comments.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Pat Robertson\u2019s claim that one can divorce a spouse with Alzheimer and begin dating others without violating<\/a> the \u201cin sickness and in health\u201d requirement, because, according to Robertson, the spouse suffering from Alzheimer \u00a0is \u201ca kind of death.\u201d As the conversation continued, one of the other dinner guests pointed out that Martin Luther had said that divorce for reason of adultery is not inconsistent with marriage being indissoluble because the adultery effectively \u201ckills\u201d the marriage in the same way that the death of a spouse ends the marriage and allows for the surviving spouse to remarry. I then called Luther\u2019s conceptual move, \u201cmetaphornication.\u201d Feel free to use it, but just give me credit.
