The convention theme is Embracing Opportunities: stepping beyond \u201cwhat we have always done\u201d and instead envisioning \u201cwhat can be\u201d as we interact with our students, establish ourselves as scholars, connect with colleagues in the discipline, partner with others beyond the academy, and juggle myriad personal commitments amid demanding professional obligations and expectations.<\/p>\n<p>The AACCD encourages submissions addressing issues that significantly contribute to the convention theme while promoting communications scholarship involving and\/or affecting descendants of the African Diaspora.<\/p>\n<p>Coinciding with the conference theme, the AACCD highly desires submissions that will encourage us to tackle tough topics, engage in meaningful dialogues, and spark conversations and foundations for collaborations that could stretch into more long-term interactions involving mentoring, research, service, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Innovative and inspiring competitive papers, panel discussions, paper and performance sessions that challenge us to examine how members from various ethnic backgrounds that have a genuine interest in attending to issues that impact the people of the African Diaspora can \u201cembrace opportunities\u201d to work together, make a difference in our educational institutions, our communities, our discipline, and our world are highly sought.<\/p>\n<p><b>SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Kindly find a description of each submission type and its requirements below.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on submission types, and best practices, please visit the Convention Resource Library <a href=\"http:\/\/www.natcom.org\/conventionresources\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">www.natcom.org\/conventionresources<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>INDIVIDUAL COMPETITIVE PAPER:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A paper submitted directly by an author as a stand-alone paper and not part of a preconceived session. Individual papers are reviewed individually and then grouped into paper sessions by the unit planner for presentation.<\/p>\n<p>Recognition for the Top Paper and Top Student Paper will be awarded.<\/p>\n<p>Please Note: The AACCD will only consider fully completed papers.<\/p>\n<p>Competitive Paper Requirements:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 A title and description (250 words maximum)<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Entry of all author (s)<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 An uploaded copy of the paper:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013The maximum length of an uploaded paper is 25, double-spaced pages, excluding references, tables, charts, and appendices.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013No information identifying the author(s) may appear in the body of your abstract or your paper upload.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013Instructions on how to prepare a blind copy are provided in the Convention Resource Library.<\/p>\n<p><b>PAPER SESSION:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A preconceived and complete session of papers surrounding a particular topic in which each author(s) presents his or her own paper. Paper sessions are submitted and reviewed for consideration as a whole.
