People say that I am racist and divisive because I openly discuss race. Many of the people that call me racist, use religion to divide. The very people that don’t want birth control or gay marriage, because it is not in line with their religious thinking, tell me I am divisive. Religion can be just as divisive as race.

Perception is reality. If you only look at the immediate world around you, then your reality is very small. So if you only look at the Black or Christian narrative, then it’s hard to compute information that doesn’t fit the narrative.

I love to learn, so the more I can learn about geography, the better. It gives me a better perception of reality. My love for geography has taught me about all races and religions. I feel more grounded than ever, now that I understand the evolution of religion. I feel more connected to humanity, now that I understand the black race isn’t the only that has met struggles throughout history.

There are two ways to look at both race and religion, as far as I am concerned. You can look for wisdom in the differences, as you embrace all races and religions. Or you can see race and religion only from your perspective, which is so divisive it literally leads to wars.

By Giovanni Neal, aka Blamegirl Rhetoric Race and Religion Contributor Follow her on Twitter @blamegirls I cannot tell you how many times, I’ve been called a race baiter.
