As the voters of the United States recommence the process of electing the next President, it is important to recall our core values. Liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans may legitimately differ on how best to implement those values, but clarifying what values remain our bedrock is the first step toward assuring that these policy disputes remain constructive. One of those bedrock values is, in the words of the Declaration of Independence, \u201cproviding for the general welfare.\u201d In biblical terms it is \u201cloving your neighbor as yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n
