In an ad\u00a0being run in Iowa, Texas<\/a> Governor Rick Perry says, \u201cI\u2019m not ashamed to admit that I\u2019m a Christian. But you don\u2019t have to be in the pew every Sunday to know that there\u2019s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military, but our kids can\u2019t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school. As president, I\u2019ll end Obama\u2019s war on religion, and I\u2019ll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage.\u201d
I have several thoughts about this, beginning with this one: To the degree that any person in this campaign has championed a \u201cwar\u201d against religion, it is what Herman Cain advocated vis-\u00e0-vis Muslims \u2013 from saying he would deny them a spot in his Cabinet and on the federal bench to advocating a \u201cloyalty proof.\u201d So perhaps Governor Perry\u2019s next ad can target\u00a0Cain\u2019s \u201cwar on religion.\u201d
