The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), the political arm of Egypt\u2019s Muslim Brotherhood is exceeding already high expectations<\/a>\u00a0in the first of Egypt\u2019s three-round parliamentary elections.\u00a0 Although opinion polls<\/a> had predicated the MB support at 20-30 percent, initial returns indicate that the FJP and its allies may win over 40 percent of seats, depending on the outcome of runoffs.
Many attribute this bump to the Brotherhood\u2019s impressive ground-game.\u00a0 \u201cEach Muslim Brotherhood member signs on to a rigorous educational curriculum and is part of something called an\u00a0usra<\/em>, or family, which meets weekly,\u201d\u00a0 explains Shadi Hamid<\/a> \u00a0Director of Research at the Brookings Doha Center, \u201cIf a Brother chooses to stay home on election day, other Brothers will know.\u201d
