Rhodes College Professor Dee Garceau interviewed R3 managing editor Andre E. Johnson<\/a> for her documentary film,\u00a0\u201cRemember Fort Pillow.\u201d\u00a0 According to Rhodes College, the film \u201crecently earned an Award of Merit in the Educational category of the\u00a0 Best Shorts Competition<\/a>. This honor recognizes the significance and professional quality of her production.<\/p>\n

Also according to Rhodes College<\/a>:<\/p>\n

The Best Shorts Competition is unique in the industry. Attracting both powerhouse companies as well as unknown, independent filmmakers, it is an international awards competition. A \u201cshort film\u201d is defined as 57 minutes or less.<\/p>\n

Under Garceau\u2019s direction, a team of 14 Rhodes students researched and produced \u201cRemember Fort Pillow\u201d (2012-13). The Fort Pillow Massacre was a Civil War atrocity in which Confederate forces killed Union soldiers after they had surrendered. The film explores how and why the slaughter took place, and how the incident has been treated in public memory.<\/p>\n
