Steele, PhD, is an assistant dean and adjunct faculty at Vanderbilt Divinity School.\u00a0 She has advanced degrees in religion and in ethics and society from Vanderbilt Divinity School and Vanderbilt University.\u00a0 Her research interests are in the writings of Howard Thurman, black women\u2019s literature, philosophical hermeneutics, spirituality, mass incarceration, and preaching.\u00a0 Her doctoral dissertation is entitled, \u201cThe Mystical Aesthetic: Howard Thurman and the Art of Meaning.\u201d She is the mother\/legal guardian of one son, Isaiah.
