Some women, for example, see God as a father and provider, according to the book.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: white;line-height: 22.3999996185303px;margin-bottom: 10px\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white;line-height: 22.3999996185303px;margin-bottom: 10px\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif\">Utley\u2019s writings say that rappers use God in many ways, mostly to fit into the type of brand they\u2019re trying to promote and how they feel religiously.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white;line-height: 22.3999996185303px;margin-bottom: 10px\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif\">But rappers have taken this one step further. Rather than simply praising God or using him as inspiration, they, in turn, have tried to take on the role of God themselves.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white;line-height: 22.3999996185303px;margin-bottom: 10px\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif\">Famous rappers have been known to take on the identity of a god, either as a way of showboating their sick skills on the mic or because of narcissism.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/04\/26\/science\/26tier.html?_r=0\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">According to The New York Times<\/a>, vanity and self-promotion are largely popular among modern rappers, serving as a reflection of the current generation.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white;line-height: 22.3999996185303px;margin-bottom: 10px\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif\">For example, Eminem compared himself to a god in the song\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/04\/26\/science\/26tier.html?_r=0\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cRap God.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0He claims he is omnipotent and can influence the world in much of the same way a god can.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/guardianlv.com\/2014\/09\/eminem-gets-into-guinness-book-of-world-records\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The song did win<\/a>\u00a0Eminem a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records, but it also put him under scrutiny for homophobic lyrics.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white;line-height: 22.3999996185303px;margin-bottom: 10px\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif\">Similarly, Kanye West has compared himself to religious figures for years.
