It\u2019s not about what we should all be doing\u00a0today<\/em>\u00a0in response to what\u2019s happening\u00a0in\u00a0#ferguson\u00a0<\/em>and dozens of other cities\u00a0today<\/em>. Nearly two weeks into this spreading eruption there\u2019s\u00a0so much powerful and precise writing out there now on that<\/a>, that not a one among us can possibly say again,\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m so upset and outraged, but I just don\u2019t know what a white person\u2019s to do.\u201d<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n
Find something.<\/a>\u00a0Do it<\/a>. Right now.<\/span><\/div>\n
But this post is about the longer haul when the tear gas canisters are finally empty. It\u2019s for those of us who love to talk about \u201cracial reconciliation.\u201d About \u201cwelcome\u201d and \u201cinclusion.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
I\u2019d bet a lot of money that if you\u2019re a liberal white Christian you recognize these concepts very well.<\/span><\/div>\n
Racial reconciliation.<\/span><\/div>\n
It\u2019s the official way we justice-loving, liberal (white) Protestants have talked about how we should respond to racism since the civil rights era came to a close. It\u2019s the most persistent path we\u2019ve chosen in our pursuit of the interracial healing and togetherness we seem to know (or think) we need.<\/span><\/div>\n
And that\u2019s what this long haul post is about.<\/span><\/div>\n
