A noted expert in\u00a0Latin American, Caribbean, and U.S. Hispanic theologies has come to the Hilltop as a visiting scholar.<\/span><\/div>\n
Dr.\u00a0Fernando Segovia<\/strong>\u00a0will be in residence\u00a0in the\u00a0Center for the Study of Latino\/a Christianity and Religions<\/a>\u00a0in SMU\u2019s\u00a0Perkins School of Theology<\/a>\u00a0March 31-April 11, 2014<\/strong>.<\/span><\/div>\n
Segovia is the Oberlin Graduate Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity in Vanderbilt University Divinity School, where he has taught since 1984.\u00a0He is also a member of the theology\u00a0faculty of Stellenbosch University in South Africa.<\/span><\/div>\n
He teaches and researches in the fields of early Christian origins, theological studies, and cultural studies, including non-Western Christian theologies, postcolonial, minority and diaspora studies. Segovia has served on the editorial boards of several academic journals, has worked as consultant for foundations and publishing houses, and has lectured both nationally and internationally. He is also a past president of the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians in the United States.<\/span><\/div>\n
