Walton<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white;line-height: 23px;margin-bottom: 25px;padding: 0px\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif\">Social ethicist and scholar of American religions Jonathan L. Walton is the Plummer Professor of Christian Morals at Harvard University and Pusey Minister in Harvard\u2019s Memorial Church. He is also a professor of religion and society on the faculty of divinity.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white;line-height: 23px;margin-bottom: 25px;padding: 0px\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif\">Professor Walton\u2019s research addresses the intersections of religion, politics and media culture. He has published widely in scholarly journals such as\u00a0<i>Religion and American Culture: A Journal of Interpretation\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i>Pneuma: The Journal of the Society for <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/pentecostal' target='_blank'>Pentecostal<\/a> Studies<\/i>. His book\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Watch-This-Aesthetics-Televangelism-Ethnicity-ebook\/dp\/B0029VCUVA\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1389035409&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=watch+this\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\"><i>Watch This! The Ethics and Aesthetics of Black Televangelism\u00a0<\/i>(NYU Press, 2009)<\/a> disrupts commonly held assumptions that associate evangelical broadcasting with white, conservative evangelical communities, while illumining the ways televangelists\u2019 professed aims are frustrated by their hyper-\u00ad\u2010mediated methods.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white;line-height: 23px;margin-bottom: 25px;padding: 0px\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif\">Professor Walton\u2019s work and insights have been featured in several national and international news outlets including the\u00a0<i>New York Times<\/i>, CNN and the BBC. He is also the \u201cresident ethicist\u201d on the Tavis Smiley radio show.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white;line-height: 23px;margin-bottom: 25px;padding: 0px\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif\">Currently he is working on a book-\u00ad\u2010length study of famed televangelist Carlton Pearson tentatively entitled\u00a0<i>Pentecostalism Made Pretty<\/i>.\u00a0 \u00a0The book explores questions of power, privilege and race in the context of late 20th \u00a0and early 21st\u00a0century neo-\u00ad\u2010Pentecostalism. He is also completing a volume on African-\u00ad\u2010American religious history with Eddie S. Glaude (Princeton University),\u00a0<i>American Religion in<\/i><i>\u00a0Black and Blue.<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white;line-height: 23px;margin-bottom: 25px;padding: 0px\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif\">Walton earned his Ph.D. and master of divinity degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary. And the Atlanta native graduated from Morehouse College with a B.A. in political science.
