Fascism: Experts and Elements

Fascism: Experts and Elements

Rarely do I post two essays here in one day! However, someone here asked me, very recently, to name some experts/scholars about Fascism. I will do that and also offer some typical elements of Fascism.

I mentioned earlier Robert Reich, professor of economics and former Secretary of Labor under President Clinton. He has a wealth of videos on Youtube explaining the similarities between Fascism and Donald Trump. Also, see the Youtube video “We’re Experts in Fascism. We’re Leaving the U.S. | NYT Opinion” featuring Yale University professors Jason Stanley, Marci Shore, and Timothy Snyder—all noted scholars of Fascism.

I have studied the lives and dictatorships and political philosophies of Mussolini, Hitler and Franco as well as some other semi- or quasi-fascist dictators including Juan Peron of Argentina and other European and South American autocrats.

Here are some typical elements of Fascism:

1. Extreme nationalism

2. Militarism

3. Autocratic leader

4. Effective one-party government

5. Capitalism regulated by the government

6. Intimidation and harassment of critics and dissidents

7. Imperialism toward other countries

8. Populism

9. Admiration of dictators and dictatorships

10. A quasi-religious ethos around the ruling party and its leaders
