Online scriptures are an important part of my regular worship. Do you remember the saying \u201cIf you want to talk to God, pray? And if you want God to talk to you, read the scriptures?\u201d That is a very true statement. There are many times I will be reading my scriptures and thoughts will come into my head. The thoughts don\u2019t always relate to the scriptures I\u2019m reading. But they often answer personal concerns, and they always give me peace. And did you know that online scriptures are an amazing, easy-to-transport, option?<\/span><\/p>\n

The Scriptures Guide<\/h3>\n

For example, I was reading 1 Nephi chapter 13<\/a> a few weeks ago. I was concerned after reading a news article highlighting a corrupt political figure. It seems like I run across similar articles nearly every time I read the news. <\/span><\/p>\n

And I was dispairing because so many in our country are out to destroy our liberties for personal gain. And then I came to verse 18. It says:<\/span><\/p>\n

18 <\/b>And I beheld that the power of God was with them, and also that the wrath of God was upon all those that were gathered together <\/span>against<\/span><\/i><\/a> them to battle.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

My heart raced as I read these words. It was as if Heavenly Father was speaking to me, telling me that He was going to take care of things. He knew of the corrupt people and would not let them win. I knew at that moment that I had nothing to fear from men because God was far more powerful. It was beautiful.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scripture App<\/h3>\n

My favorite place to read the scriptures is in the free app Gospel Library<\/a>. Of course, you can read the scriptures online at churchofjesuschrist.org<\/a>. But I love the app because I can highlight my favorite verses. There are footnotes highlighted in the text, similar to online. For example, in the grouping of verses where I found the quote above, there is another verse I love. It says:<\/span><\/p>\n

19 <\/b>And I, Nephi, beheld that the Gentiles that had gone out of captivity were <\/span>delivered<\/span><\/i><\/a> by the power of God out of the hands of all other nations.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If you follow the link for the footnote attached to \u201cdelivered\u201d you get more clarity on the message. It takes you to 2 Nephi 10: 10-14<\/a>. It reads:<\/span><\/p>\n

10 But behold, this land, said God, shall be a land of thine inheritance, and the Gentiles shall be blessed upon the land.<\/span><\/p>\n

11 And this land shall be a land of liberty unto the Gentiles, and there shall be no kings upon the land, who shall raise up unto the Gentiles.<\/span><\/p>\n

12 And I will fortify this land against all other nations.<\/span><\/p>\n

13 And he that fighteth against Zion shall perish, saith God.<\/span><\/p>\n

14 For he that raiseth up a king against me shall perish, for I, the Lord, the king of heaven, will be their king, and I will be a light unto them forever, that hear my words.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When I read the first verse the Spirit spoke to my heart. And in following the footnote the message is further strengthened. Our Heavenly Father will not allow any other king to be raised in His place.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Paper VS Digital<\/h3>\n

In college, I had a Franklin Covey day planner. I loved that thing. I also brought my scriptures to church with me. Those were the days of paper. These days I get my scriptures to church on my phone. It\u2019s so handy! <\/span><\/p>\n

It fits in my purse and I don\u2019t have to carry anything else. The colored pencils that I used to mark favorite scriptures are replaced by a simple highlight tool in the app.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some people may argue that you need the old-school paper version to experience the scriptures. And many others feel strongly about the digital version of the Word. I know God speaks to each person in their own language. So I know that God doesn\u2019t care how you choose to read the scriptures, He just cares that you DO read them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gratitude<\/h3>\n

I\u2019m so grateful for a Heavenly Father who constantly works to reach His children. I am grateful that He loves us and has prepared this Earth, the scriptures, and every needful thing to bless us. <\/span><\/p>\n

We all have a lot to learn, which is why we are here on Earth. And I am so grateful that He gave us His Word to guide us. With our Heavenly Father close by, we can confidently go forward guided by His holy word- both the paper and digital versions.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

I love being his mother and the things that make him unique. In 2020, every autism service stopped. So I got trained to be an RBT (Low-level autism therapist) with BehaviorUniversity.com. It has made homeschooling and doing at-home ABA easier as I understand my son better. They have some courses for parents to help them understand autism better, and I highly recommend them if you are searching. We have been home-schooling off and on for 6 years now. And it's wonderful to see my son thriving. Education and background Although my degree is not in education, I do have degrees from BYU Idaho and Southern Utah University in public relations, interpersonal communication, and marketing. I was lucky enough to get to teach a couple of freshman classes at SUU as part of my senior project. I have the best memories of those times. And it showed me how much I love to teach. While at SUU I was on the debate team. I wasn\u2019t great, but I loved the team and the feeling of unity we had. As a member of the Lambda Delta Signa sorority, I spent a year as VP of my chapter. I served on Institute Council and in leadership with my choir. And I was a member of the Lambda Pi Eta honor society. Funny enough, I was nominated as SUU\u2019s personality of the year in my senior year because I was so involved When my son was small I was part of the PTA at bus school \u00a0I even served on the PTA board and taught art classes to the kids. \u00a0I also volunteered to help out in the cafeteria. And I was a \u2018recess duty\u2019 meaning I got to be outside as a responsible adult during recess I love to write and wrote for LDSblogs.com as Abby Christianson and as Patty Sampson for many years. I took over editing LDS Blogs when our beloved editor Terri Bittner passed away suddenly from brain cancer in 2017. Then in 2020, LDSblogs.com stopped publishing after the pandemic affected their funding. But they are still online and some great stories are there if you are interested. I'm a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I've been married for 23 years, and a mother for 15 years. I love people and creating in any capacity I can.
