{"id":217,"date":"2011-06-21T20:27:07","date_gmt":"2011-06-21T20:27:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/community\/scientologybeliefs\/?p=217"},"modified":"2017-10-24T05:17:45","modified_gmt":"2017-10-24T12:17:45","slug":"11-tips-for-a-stress-free-pregnancy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/scientologybeliefs\/2011\/06\/11-tips-for-a-stress-free-pregnancy\/","title":{"rendered":"11 Tips for a Stress-Free Pregnancy"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scientologyparent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/image3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"309\" height=\"240\">I  originally wrote this article directly following a successful  mid-term checkup  my wife had with her midwife, when she was pregnant  with our second child. \u00a0I  wrote it, as that pregnancy was essentially  the most stress-free and  problem-free that one could ask for, and  resulted in what I\u2019d say is the  happiest baby we\u2019ve ever seen.<\/div>\n<div>As  such, I had culled from several close friends a list of what  they found to be  their top items in having a stress-free pregnancy  which is as comfortable as  possible, and which got them the best  results.\u00a0 Some of the below are  Scientology, some are just common  sense. \u00a0I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scientologyparent.com\/top-6-lessons-for-having-a-happy-baby\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span>summed up the most important ones in a later  article<\/span><\/a>,  after seeing how happy my baby turned out, but all of the  below are  quite applicable. \u00a0Definitely let me know if you think I missed   anything!<\/div>\n<div>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>GET EDUCATED.<\/strong><br>\nRead a few good books on the subject (such as \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.whattoexpect.com\/what-to-expect\/landing-page.aspx\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">What to Expect When You\u2019re Expecting<\/a>\u201c). Take childbirth classes (even you ladies that don\u2019t plan to do natural childbirth!) Getting educated through books and classes and natural childbirth videos, gives you calm. Gives you some certainty. Gives you enough data that you can understand what\u2019s going on with your body both during pregnancy and during labor and delivery. It gives you enough data to be able to think with and make decisions about your own pregnancy, labor and delivery (beforehand and in case of something unexpected!). It gives the great confidence which comes with knowing what to expect, at least as best you can without having yet experienced it. I cannot stress this point enough. If you don\u2019t know what\u2019s happening, don\u2019t know what to expect, don\u2019t understand the things going on, are not aware of some of the things that might be asked of you or pushed on you, you feel and are EFFECT. Wouldn\u2019t you rather have a good understanding and be IN CONTROL?<\/li>\n<li><strong>DADDY \u2013 This applies to you too \u2013 GET EDUCATED.<br>\n<\/strong>A huge part of the job of the husband is making sure that when some crazy new sensation happens to mommy, that you either know what it is, or find out quickly, so that you can assure her that it\u2019s totally normal.\u00a0 Another part of this is to make sure that the books that your wife has selected to read are the good, informative sort, and not the sort that make her think that every last thing that\u2019s happening to her is a sign that she\u2019s possibly going to have a deformed, sickly, brain-damaged child.\u00a0 Those books are out there, and they are about the most upsetting thing one can read.\u00a0 Avoid them.\u00a0 Again, the \u201cWhat to Expect\u201d books are fantastic.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Proper Nutrition.<br>\n<\/strong>Proper nutrition, including frequent small healthy meals\/snacks, and plenty of protein.\u00a0 There are an immense number of books and websites out there that list good things for a pregnant momma to be eating \u2013 so finding out what to eat is not the problem.\u00a0 Keeping your discipline in, and \u2013 DADDY \u2013 making sure that mommy does indeed get everything she needs daily \u2013 is a major task throughout the pregnancy that reduces stress and makes everything go better.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Regular\u00a0<em>Assists<\/em>, as much as possible.<br>\n<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scientologyhandbook.org\/SH6_1.HTM\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Scientology assists<\/a> such as the\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scientologyhandbook.org\/SH6_4.HTM\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Touch Assist<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scientologyhandbook.org\/SH6_5.HTM\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Nerve Assist<\/a>, <\/em>and\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scientologyhandbook.org\/SH6_6.HTM\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Body Comm<\/a><\/em> are fantastic for pregnant mothers to keep them in communication with their bodies, relieve standing pains, and relieve stress.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Doing a Scientology Pregnancy Assist Program:<\/strong><br>\nDoing a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scientologyparent.com\/pregnancy-assist-programs-using-scientology-to-have-a-stress-free-pregnancy-birth-experience\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">pregnancy assist auditing program<\/a> (preferably mid-pregnancy, before you get too big or uncomfortable or have trouble sleeping because rolling over becomes an event in itself).\u00a0\u00a0 The Scientology Pregnancy Assist program is explained\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scientologyparent.com\/pregnancy-assist-programs-using-scientology-to-have-a-stress-free-pregnancy-birth-experience\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 Ask anyone who\u2019s had one and you\u2019ll see how vital it\u2019s been in having a stress-free, calm pregnancy.\u00a0 My wife included!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Daily Walks &amp; Exercise:<br>\n<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tadnkat\/5031519613\/in\/set-72157624920827727\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scientologyparent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/image4.png\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" width=\"244\" height=\"224\" align=\"right\"><\/a>Taking regular walks was a massively successful action when we were expecting our first girl, and is a big plus that I\u2019ve gotten from nearly all of my friends. Getting in light but regular exercise is widely recommended by nearly any medical-type text, with swimming being a highly-rated one, as it gives one a nice break from the weight of your giant belly.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dates with your Spouse: <\/strong><br>\nMake it a point to have regular \u201cdates\u201d with your spouse\u2013at LEAST once a month. Time for just the two of you to go out and spend time with each other.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t Believe the Merchants of Pregnancy Fear: <\/strong><br>\nTake everything you hear (or read, especially on the internet) with a grain of salt. Keep your head about you, stay calm, and use common sense. When you\u2019re pregnant, you\u2019re likely to hear the\u00a0<strong>worst stories <\/strong>(as well as the most wonderful), the wildest things, and EVERYBODY\u2019s opinion. You are yourself. Everyone has their own unique experience in pregnancy and in birth. Do not accept or worry over everything that\u2019s thrown at you. Again, you can achieve stability and common sense with good education, as above. Also, if there\u2019s a particular person in your environment that just has to tell you every terrible story ever heard, dramatic versions of their own horrific experience, every painful detail, or other things that cause you to constantly worry, stay away from that person! (At least as much as possible.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get PLENTY of rest:<br>\n<\/strong>This is as much the husband\u2019s job as it is the mommy\u2019s.\u00a0 Make it possible for mommy to sleep as MUCH AS SHE WANTS TO, and constantly work to arrange life so that she can sleep.\u00a0 Do the dishes for her, do the laundry, watch the kids when they wake up at 6am \u2013 do\u00a0<strong>anything<\/strong> to make sure that she gets the extended sleep that she needs as a pregnant mommy.\u00a0 So much stress gets relieved simply by being well-rested.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make a Birth Plan:<\/strong><br>\nA good site is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.birthplan.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">www.birthplan.com<\/a> for the basics on what a birth plan is, why you would want one, and a sample birth plan. Give copies in writing to your doctor or midwife (and make sure they read it and have it on file), also make extra copies and have them handy for any nurses, assistants, or last-minute substitute doctors.\u00a0 Having a birth plan removes a lot of the stress of the unknowns of the big day, and lets you really see that you\u2019ve got everything straightened out for when things start to rock &amp; roll on junior\u2019s birthday.<\/li>\n<li><strong>COMMUNICATION:<\/strong><br>\nI mention this last to make sure it has sufficient emphasis.\u00a0 It\u2019s the job of the husband to be in as near-perfect\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scientologyparent.com\/communication-the-key-element-in-parenting\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">communication with mommy<\/a> throughout the pregnancy, and to make sure you\u2019re understanding her needs and responding.\u00a0 With communication, one can get through just about\u00a0<strong>anything<\/strong>
