In writing about the role of religion in America\u2019s pluralistic society, President Barack Obama states: \u201cThe particular faith that motivates each of us can promote a greater good for all of us. Instead of driving us apart, our varied beliefs can bring us together to feed the hungry and comfort the afflicted; to make peace where there is strife and rebuild what has broken; to lift up those who have fallen on hard times.\u201d<\/p>\n

But what is it that calls us, people of faith, to reach out beyond ourselves and our families to help others?<\/p>\n

Despite the favorite theories espoused by skeptics, men and women are motivated by more that personal survival.\u00a0 And no it is not simply survival of the fittest or pack instinct.<\/p>\n

It is part of each of us to seek the survival of all.<\/p>\n
