I literally have only ten minutes to write while my min mac and cheese bites bake.\u00a0 I\u2019m trying out a new recipe from Shauna Niequist\u2019s book \u201cBread and Wine:Love Letter To Life Around the Table\u201d<\/a> for dinner and a welcome home\/enjoy one more day basking in your honeymoon afterglow dinner for a newly wed couple on our launch team.\u00a0 So, today\u2019s FMF \u201cbeautiful\u201d will be on fumbling my way through the recipe and even though I was completely overwhelmed attempting to make my own sauce the outcome was beautiful in an unexpected way. Disclaimer:\u00a0 The pic and links took longer then five minutes..<\/p>\n

And now\u2026<\/p>\n

Beautiful Intentions.<\/p>\n

Mac and cheese!\u00a0 C\u2019mon how can you mess up mac and cheese?\u00a0 A little milk, cheese, butter, and elbow macaroni\u2026boom! Dinner.\u00a0 Well actually, a little cheese powder<\/em>, milk\u00a0 (if it\u2019s on hand), margarine, Phineas and Ferb shaped pasta. But there can\u2019t be that much of a difference, right?<\/p>\n

So, I peruse the dairy section at Trader Joe\u2019s and find the perfect combination of cheese that says, \u201cI\u2019m super yummy AND a little bit hoity toity\u201d.\u00a0 I picked\u00a0 swiss and Gruyere cheese. Gruyere is a cheese I can\u2019t even spell! Which is why spell check just fixed it for me.\u00a0 I figure if I can\u2019t spell the cheese<\/em> then it\u2019s got to be awesome, way above my pay grade and palate.<\/p>\n

So I\u2019m good to go with my cheese, my butter, my elbow pasta, and my good intentions to make a beautiful meal for Emily and Albert.<\/p>\n

So here we go\u2026<\/p>\n

Wait, why is the cheese all viscous?\u00a0 And why doesn\u2019t this recipe call for milk?\u00a0 I mean, I add milk to Kraft, why not to this beautiful, wonderful, \u201cSo happy you\u2019re married!\u201d\u00a0 meal?<\/p>\n

Oh whateves, it probably has something to do with the baking aspect.\u00a0 I mean I never bake the Spongebob shaped blue box of mac and cheese so my cheesy pasta repertoire is severely limited so let\u2019s see how this goes\u2026.and we\u2019re adding the al dente<\/em> pasta now. ..<\/p>\n

I said, \u201cal dente\u201d<\/em> just like Giada and for a minute, I feel as sexy and intriguing as the Food Network Star.<\/p>\n

Um\u2026.<\/p>\n

Um\u2026.<\/p>\n

Why is there a glop of cheese surrounded by lonely untouched pasta?<\/p>\n

Why isn\u2019t it gently coating the cheese before I place it in the oven?<\/p>\n

Oh Lord, I bet it needed milk.\u00a0 Can I add milk?\u00a0 But there\u2019s egg in it already, will the egg cook if I add milk?\u00a0 No one likes random bits of scrambled egg in their upscale mac and cheese.<\/p>\n

Well, let\u2019s see how this goes\u2026.<\/p>\n

pre-baked. Peep the glop of Gruyere on top. And the super cute heart pan up top. yea, spreading the love around one glop of Gruyere at a time\u2026<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

yeah, baby. Oh and please forgive the toothpaste. That did not, I repeat, did not make it into the mac and cheese. I\u2019m packing for our vacation tomorrow.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Ta-Da!\u00a0 They\u2019re beautiful.\u00a0 Not the best looking baked mac and cheese but I\u2019ll take it and I\u2019ll gladly give it.\u00a0 Because I\u2019m learning something about these homemade gifts; someone will always make a better baked mac and cheese than me, someone will always nail the cheese sauce while mine is a gloppy mountain of good intention surrounded by neglected macaroni, theirs will be super creamy and delish while mine will be chewy and tasty, so presentation and perfection do not make these gifts beautiful and meaningful.\u00a0 The thoughtfulness, the time you put in, the simple prayers on your lips for those who will eat your meal, and the joy of knowing that your hands were Jesus as you frantically whisk an unyielding cheese sauce or messily spoon pasta into tins make them meaningful and beautiful.<\/p>\n

I know they taste great.\u00a0 I\u2019ve tried their yummy pre-baked counterparts and even if they don\u2019t look beautiful, they are.\u00a0 By simply existing, they whisper,<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are important\u201d and \u201cSomeone loves you\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

And that!\u00a0 That my friends, is beautiful.<\/p>\n
