So, last night, I posted to Facebook that the kids were in bed by 8.\u00a0 Yeah, that lasted for oh um\u2026.ten minutes until someone\u2019s finger hurt, someone really, really, really, wanted to wear their school clothes to bed, \u201cJust so I\u2019m ready, Mom!\u2026oh c\u2019mon, mom, please\u2026.please\u2026please\u2026 I\u2019m trying to be responsible!\u201d, and yet another complained she was waiting up \u201call this time!\u201d for me to \u201cproperly tuck us in\u201d!<\/p>\n

Good grief!<\/p>\n

Then I had the great idea to put up my iSwaag chalkboard wall<\/a> with my DIY mommy swagger, and then read this swagger-stopping line on the website:<\/p>\n

\u201cKeep flattened with heavy objects on edges for 24 hours so roll is totally flat\u201d<\/p>\n

Spur-of-the-moment plans of awesomeness rarely work out for me\u2026I don\u2019t know why I even try.<\/p>\n

So I decided to make chalkboard \u201cfirst day of school signs\u201d like these.<\/a><\/p>\n

They\u2019re printable (read: you can\u2019t mess this baby up if your life depended on it). They\u2019re chalkboard themed.\u00a0 They\u2019re cute.\u00a0 They\u2019re free!\u00a0Perfect to redeem my awesomeness fail.<\/p>\n

Until I realized I didn\u2019t have Popsicle sticks so the kids can actually hold the signs<\/em>!\u00a0 Really! Really?!?!?! First it was the time (or lack thereof).\u00a0 Now it\u2019s the materials (or again\u2026lack thereof).\u00a0 What\u2019s next\u2026a paper cut?<\/p>\n

Please God, no!\u00a0 Even though I did finally break down and buy Converse, <\/a> \u2014 I am not awkward vampire birthday party Bella Swan.<\/p>\n

Uhhhh\u2026. No.<\/p>\n

So, I scavenged the kitchen drawers and decided to tape the wooden spoons upside down, doing an admiral \u201cSlap-bang\u201d* job on these signs! Now, the grandparents will get cute cards on Grandparent\u2019s Day this Sunday.<\/p>\n

So, here are my kids\u2019 back to school pics. BTW\u2026I survived these signs paper-cut free!<\/p>\n
