<\/span>TGIF! \u00a0Date night\u2019s in a little less than an hour. \u00a0My FMF is coming later than usual because spent the day writing Third Way Womanhood part 4\u2014I\u2019m thiiiiiiiiiiiis close to finishing, but I needed a break so I popped over to Lisa-Jo\u2019s site and grabbed today\u2019s prompt. \u00a0Since y\u2019all know Jesus works on me through media and music, it shouldn\u2019t be a surprising that today\u2019s prompt reminded me of John Legend\u2019s ultra-cool, but gritty love song, \u201cOrdinary People\u201d. <\/a>(click the link for the music video)<\/span>

<\/span>I hope y\u2019all are encouraged by a look at our early years of\u00a0marital\u00a0conflict in today\u2019s FMF called:<\/span>

Ordinary Girl Love an Ordinary Boy<\/span><\/b>

The first time I heard John Legend\u2019s \u201cOrdinary People\u201d, my husband and I were quarrelling.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Not the \u201coh he\u2019s so annoying, but still cute, so I\u2019ll quickly kiss and forgive him\u201d quarreling.\u00a0 No, the type of quarrelling that lasts for days.\u00a0 The disjointed and red\u00a0 dreams at night because the sun set on your anger quarrelling. The can\u2019t look at you without replaying the words you said quarrelling. The \u201cwho are you, why are you so angry, and what have you done with my husband?\u201d quarrelling.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
To this day, I can\u2019t remember why that season was so contemptuous for us, but it was in the midst of this time that I was driving home from the grocery store and this song came on.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I hummed along to the melody. I nodded to the beat. I sang along to the last chorus.\u00a0 I sighed at the lovely piano driven song. <\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
That night the quarrelling resumed and as I laid on my bed preparing once more for \u00a0angry, red, disjointed dreams, I ranted to Jesus, which I\u2019m wont to do.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
As I complained and condemned husband for every hurt word, action, and deed this song drifted to me in the dark.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We\u2019re just ordinary people, we don\u2019t know which way to go. <\/span><\/i><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Which way do I go, Lord?\u00a0 I\u2019m just an ordinary girl in love with an ordinary boy and things are extraordinarily hard.\u00a0 <\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
take it slow, sometimes we take it slow<\/i>.\u00a0 Jesus reminded me using the words from the end of the chorus.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Slow. Slow?\u00a0 What are you telling me, Lord?<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Then a scripture I\u2019ve quoted often and followed rarely pressed into my heart, <\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cslow to speak, slow to anger.\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
And the conviction that came both seared and soothed. <\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In my pride I held onto the offenses blaming my ordinariness in this new, past the novelty phase marriage, but what about my husband?\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Was he as ordinary as me?\u00a0 <\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Ordinary in his anger management?<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Ordinary in his word choice?<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Ordinary in his compassion?<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Ordinary in as a new husband?<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
If so, then he\u2019s just an ordinary boy in love with an ordinary girl who doesn\u2019t know which way to go.<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I should give him the grace I expect.\u00a0 I should kiss and forgive, even if I have to do it every single day.\u00a0 <\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
So I prayed for grace, with my tear-stained cheek pressed to my pillow before drifting off to sleep, settled to forgive, determined to love, full of peace that surpasses all understanding.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The quarrelling continued in the post-fairy tale phase of marriage until we learned to respond to ordinary moments of frustration with extra-ordinary grace\u2014 but the hurt, the pain, and red, angry, disjointed dreams went away.\u00a0 <\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Because I learned to take it slow.\u00a0 <\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It\u2019s true we\u2019re just ordinary people, but we serve an extraordinary Forgiver who empowers us to be slow to speak, slow to anger, and quick to love.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
