It\u2019s Friday y\u2019all, that means a: my husband comes home from his four day ordination class (yay), b: date night is a mere14 hours away (double yay!) and it\u2019s time for another Five Minute Friday (super yay).<\/span>

<\/span>Today\u2019s word prompt was: home. \u00a0I chose to listen to Vanessa Carlton\u2019s \u201chome\u201d for inspiration and then write for five minutes on what home means to me as an post-Katrina evacuee. \u00a0<\/span>

<\/span>So I hope y\u2019all enjoy five minutes of my best interpretation of: Home<\/span><\/p>\n

Start:<\/b><\/span>

<\/b><\/span>Home for the Post-Katrina Evacuee<\/b><\/span>

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Seven years ago my home was threatened.\u00a0 An unprecedented storm was barreling down on the Gulf Coast.\u00a0 The \u201cBig One\u201d we\u2019ve all been waiting for.\u00a0 As I sat in my New Orleans apartment, overwhelmed by fear and pregnancy hormones magnifying my worry, I realized that \u201chome\u201d would no longer be the cute little office space turned apartment around the corner from the community center my husband worked at.\u00a0 \u201cHome\u201d wouldn\u2019t be the first place my husband and I called \u201cours\u201d after marriage, \u00a0\u201chome\u201d wouldn\u2019t be where we tucked in our toddler and expanded our family.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cHome\u201d would have to take on a richer, deeper, more internal meaning. \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Home would have to more than brick and stone, wood and mortar, stainless steel and granite, furniture and appliance, or anything else that HGTV would tell us defines home.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Home would need to be indestructible and incorruptible.\u00a0 Home would need to be the intangible amenities of smiles and laughter, comforting hugs and exhilarating tickles, loud games of Monopoly and quiet prayers uttered.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Home is the people God entrusted to us to love and home is entrusting ourselves to God\u2019s love.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Holding onto Jesus, in him I live and move and have my being, I was able to pack up our cat, computer, and cranky toddler to set out upon the open road. \u00a0Evacuating the city I loved and unsure of where we\u2019d end up. But sure that no matter were we landed, we were home.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
