The kids were downstairs watching cartoons waiting for our Saturday tradition: donuts from Dunkin\u2019 and juice for breakfast. \u00a0\u2018Oh Shoot!\u00a0 It\u2019s Saturday\u2019<\/em>, I thought while I dressed, the battle sounds of Spiderman and his nemesis rushing into my room and reminding me of the day. \u00a0\u2018Shoot, shoot, shoot\u2019<\/em> I thought with every step, \u2018how the heck am I going to do Breakfast with Jesus, when I\u2019m breakfasting with the kids?\u00a0 Shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot.\u2019\u00a0 <\/em> When I rounded the steps into our living room I took in the scene\u2014all three of my in PJs, cups of yogurt on the end tables, bare toes peaking from under the blankets, and an anticipation of the Sunday morning sweet-treat\u2014and thought of Jesus\u2019 words:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cLet the little children come to Me and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of Heaven.\u201d\u00a0 Matthew 19:14<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

You know, this was inevitable: my kids cramping my Super-spiritual style, but there\u2019s truth in Jesus words here for you and for me.\u00a0 This year we\u2019ve made some promises to ourselves, some of us have called them OneWord365<\/a>, some have called them goals, the common label is \u201cresolution\u201d but in essence it\u2019s a promise, a hope, a dream to grow over the next 365 days.\u00a0 This in and itself is noble and good.\u00a0 But let\u2019s be careful to not be legalistic about our New Year\u2019s goals.\u00a0 Let us not become like the disciples who were too busy caring about the \u201cimportant\u201d work of discipleship: crowd control, absorbing Jesus\u2019 teaching, jockeying for position in his Kingdom, pandering to the VIPS, that we forget about the little ones\u2014the loud, needy, waiting little ones to whom the kingdom of Heaven belongs. \u00a0So, I pulled my coat from the rack and said, \u201cI\u2019m taking the bus to Harvard Square. Who wants to come with me for Saturday tradition?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

We had a great breakfast, but I learned something about the way Jesus works, he cares more about the people he meets on the way to his destination than the destination itself.\u00a0 He recognizes that along the way to achieving his goals,\u00a0 there will be interruptions, but that\u2019s ok.\u00a0 The Kingdom of God is found in interruptions, in the eschewing of expectations, and the loving the little ones. <\/strong><\/p>\n
