I\u2019m sure some of you have noticed the new buttons in the sidebar and the updated picture taken by the super talented<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccakphotography.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> Rebecca<\/a> Gutwin. If you follow me on Instagram or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ShalomintheCity\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Facebook<\/a>, maybe you\u2019ve noticed these pictures. One observant friend PM\u2019d me wondering if I was about to announce something big on the blog. Not wanting to give anything away yet, I just shrugged and wrote back, \u2018Maybe\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2776\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2776\" style=\"width: 692px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/noondayoshetacollage.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2776\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/noondayoshetacollage.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"noondayOshetacollage\" width=\"692\" height=\"427\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2776\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Left: Necklace-Hanoi, made with love in Vietnam Earrings- Cow Horn Hoops made with love in Uganda Right: Necklace- Scattered Steps Necklace Plum made with love in Ecuador Earrings- Dreamweaver made with love in Peru<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Well, the time\u2019s come to share, after lots of prayer, asking my girlfriends if I\u2019m crazy, and reading Nish Weiseth\u2019s ground-breaking book,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Speak-Your-Story-Change-World-ebook\/dp\/B00GRYXOS8\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1409966883&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=speak+nish+weiseth\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cSpeak:How Your Story Can Change the World\u201d<\/a>, I\u2019ve decided to become an <a href=\"http:\/\/oshetamoore.noondaycollection.com\/ambassador-oshetamoore-aboutme.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ambassador for Noonday Collections<\/a>!!!!!<\/p>\n<p>Noonday Collection is a unique company that uses fashion and design to create economic opportunity for the vulnerable in developing countries. For over a year, I\u2019ve loved Noonday Collection.\u00a0 I\u2019ve <del>wasted<\/del> spent hours drooling over their website and dreamed about becoming a voice for the artisans through the Ambassador opportunity,\u00a0 but I\u2019m a home based business failure so I resigned myself to praying and shopping.\u00a0 I know, I know, suffering (stylishly) for Jesus. After reading Nish\u2019s book, I had a restlessness about my\u00a0 Noonday decision, though. I think God opened my eyes to see that Noonday is different from most jewelry or for-profit philanthropic businesses because it\u2019s story-driven. Every piece is made by an artisan group that has a unique story of brokenness made whole by their partnership with Noonday.\u00a0 Every artisan group offers dignified work and livable wages to their community.\u00a0 <strong>Where there is oppression, Noonday uses mediums that are so universal and creative to break those bonds-fashion, beauty, and stories.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s my turn to share why I love Noonday on the Ambassador Blog Train and I\u2019m so excited to introduce you to this company. At the end of this post, I\u2019ll offer a giveaway of one of my favorite Noonday pieces from the fall line to you my readers.\u00a0 For more opportunities to learn about and win some Noonday swag visit one of my fellow ambassadors <a href=\"http:\/\/thebeautifulpathblog.wordpress.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Shelley Perry\u2019s<\/a> corner of the internet tomorrow morning.<\/p>\n<p>This morning I listened to TED talk radio hour while doing my chores and the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2013\/05\/06\/181684003\/giving-it-away\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> episode on giving<\/a> eerily matched all of the reasons I love Noonday.\u00a0 So I\u2019ll use it as the framework for sharing<\/p>\n<p>From four very different perspectives offered insights on giving and alleviating poverty:<\/p>\n<p>Mark Bezos\u2013firefighter who perspective of \u201chero\u201d changed when his <strong>simple act of kindness<\/strong> made a big impact.<br>\nRon Finley\u2013A \u201cGangsta gardener\u201d created <strong>sustainable<\/strong> health and growth for his inner-city neighborhood with his urban garden. He transformed his community by offering dignified work, education,\u00a0 and a mission to his neighbors.<br>\nDan Pallotta\u2013A Harvard-educated business man\/humanitarian activist who suggests we\u2019d see more change in the world if we <strong>responded to savvy charity organizations<\/strong> with generosity and partnership<br>\nAmanda Palmer\u2013A musician who had the <strong>courage to see<\/strong> her fans as people, honor that in them, and invite them as more than consumers but partners in her passion to make the world more beautiful through music.<\/p>\n<p>While listening, I thought about Shalom and how each speaker\u2019s thoughts on giving and affecting change in the world revealed something profound about it.\u00a0 I believe Noonday is doing amazing Shalom work and I\u2019m excited to be a part of it as an Ambassador.<\/p>\n<p><strong>From the TED Talk radio hour I realized that:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Shalom is simple<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Shalom is sustainable<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Shalom is Savvy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Shalom starts by seeing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/simpleshalom.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2777\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/simpleshalom.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"Simpleshalom\" width=\"640\" height=\"457\"><\/a><br>\n<strong>Noonday is simple<\/strong><br>\nWe have incredible purchasing power to harness. <strong>What If we made small adjustments to our shopping habits? We could create a lovely ripple effect of wholeness for the economically vulnerable.\u00a0<\/strong> Even I, a housekeeper, nanny, and stay at home mom, have more resources available to me than most of the women in the world. If I take the money I earn at my little housekeeping side-job and put it towards a lovely piece of jewelry made by a woman who has no other opportunity for work but what Noonday\u2019s partnership provides\u2013 I can make a lasting impact on a family in need.\u00a0 A couple of months ago, I missed an opportunity to empower with my purchases.\u00a0 When a girlfriend posted on Facebook that she was outside our favorite jewelry store, I texted her \u2018Grab me a few necklaces you think I\u2019ll like and I\u2019ll send you a check later this week.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0 This type of transactions happens all the time for me, but when I got those necklaces I had a sobering thought, \u2018what if I didn\u2019t text her?\u00a0 What if I took that money I would have spent at the store and bought one really spectacular piece from Noonday?\u00a0 What if I had a necklace that I could wear that would prompt me to pray for peace in Uganda, Guatemala, Peru or Ethiopia?\u2019 I\u2019m passionate about the Shalom of Noonday Collections because it\u2019s as simple as opening my eyes to my purchasing power and being willing to interrupt my shopping habits. <strong>Shalom for the globally oppressed isn\u2019t easy, but it is simple. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/sustainable1.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2779\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/sustainable1.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"sustainable\" width=\"640\" height=\"896\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Noonday is Sustainable<\/strong><br>\nNoonday not only creates economic opportunity by purchasing from the artisans at a far and equitable rate, but they offer scholarships, no-interest loans, and emergency help.\u00a0 Following Jesus\u2019 lead to help the hurting then empowering them change their community, Noonday\u2019s mission is effect long-lasting change in developing countries. Working with the artisans to make products we buy so often\u2013earrings for date night, a bracelet for the babysitter, a roomy tote for back to school, scarfs for warmth in the winter\u2013is creates a lovely long-term partnership.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/saavy.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2780\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/saavy.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"saavy\" width=\"640\" height=\"457\"><\/a><br>\n<strong>Noonday is Savvy<\/strong><br>\nFrom hiring designers who worked with Free People and have their thumbs on the pulse of what\u2019s trendy, reads well with the Western market, and what\u2019s economical to make, to visiting the communities where the artisans live to find out what natural resources are available to make their jewelry, I\u2019m impressed with the business acumen of Noonday.\u00a0 Their look-books are stunning, the website is so easy to navigate, and the products\u2013all handmade\u2013are wonderful quality.\u00a0 To be honest, when I first learned about Noonday, I balked at some of the prices. I\u2019m used to catching deals at the mall and buying on clearance at target, but when I allowed myself to see the people behind the pieces it all changed for me because\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/seesstory.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2781\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/seesstory.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"seesstory\" width=\"640\" height=\"457\"><\/a><br>\n<strong>Noonday sees people the way God see them and invites them into a great story<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Noonday is story-driven.\u00a0 It\u2019s relational. After making a wish list of items I thought too pricey for my budget, I spent some time on the impact page to learn their stories.\u00a0 Taking Nish\u2019s words to heart:<\/p>\n<p><em>The problem of poverty fatigue isn\u2019t with the organizations doing the work.\u00a0 Rather, the problem is with our inability to connect on a deeper level with those in need.\u00a0 How can we actually work to eradicate the crippling effects of poverty on children, adults, and communities around the world?
