{"id":4782,"date":"2014-02-07T11:00:25","date_gmt":"2014-02-07T16:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oshetablogs.wordpress.com\/?p=2243"},"modified":"2014-02-07T11:00:25","modified_gmt":"2014-02-07T16:00:25","slug":"what-im-into-januarylove-edition-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/shalominthecity\/2014\/02\/what-im-into-januarylove-edition-2\/","title":{"rendered":"What I&#8217;m Into: January\/Love Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p>Hi Friends,<\/p>\n<p>Last week, my husband was in Chicago at Mid-winter, a conference by our denomination.\u00a0 When he\u2019s away I try to get every single home project on my to-do list completed, one year I reorganized our linen closet, another I turned our bedroom in a romantic love nest complete with twinkle lights and new lamps, this year I wanted to cover our dining room chairs, but when I asked my husband where his staple gun was, he was like, \u201cwait?\u00a0 I have a staple gun?\u201d\u00a0 So, yeah, there went pretty new chairs idea.\u00a0 Instead, I planned our ten-year anniversary celebration.\u00a0 For our anniversary, we\u2019re staycationing here in Boston for the weekend at this amazing Moroccan themed suite, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.com\/rooms\/29765?checkin=02%2F21%2F2014&amp;checkout=02%2F23%2F2014&amp;guests=2&amp;s=eAvS\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">booked through AirBnB:<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/763a67255d6f9248c9508ddc8606cb011.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2281 aligncenter\" alt=\"763a67255d6f9248c9508ddc8606cb01\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/763a67255d6f9248c9508ddc8606cb011.jpg?w=300\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So this month\u2019s submission (well into Feb mind you) to Leigh Kramer\u2019s \u201cWhat I\u2019m Into\u201d will include a couple of my favorite wifey\/romance resources.\u00a0 Maybe some of them will inspire you this Feb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leighkramer.com\/blog\/what-im-into\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2054 aligncenter\" alt=\"What\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/12\/what.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can see all the products here on my What I\u2019m Into Pinterest Board.\u00a0 I\u2019ve also included my new favorite coffee shop here in Boston (<a href=\"http:\/\/bourboncoffeeusa.com\/cafes\/#cafe-1\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Bourbon Coffee<\/a>) and a recipe for homemade spaghetti sauce because in keeping with this year\u2019s OneWord365, I\u2019m trying to embrace slow food by making more things from scratch.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/pin\/368521181978696099\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2290 aligncenter\" alt=\"Screen shot 2014-02-07 at 10.42.47 AM\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/screen-shot-2014-02-07-at-10-42-47-am.png\" width=\"235\" height=\"240\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Products I\u2019m Into:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First of all, have you seen this International Delight Pumpkin Pie Spice commercial:<br>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Checkout - International Delight Pumpkin Pie Spice TV Commercial\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gZis7QiII4A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p><p>This was me, on January first at Target when I saw they marked all their Method Peppermint Vanilla Dish Soap down to $1.\u00a0 There were 15 bottles.\u00a0 I bought them all (there\u2019s only ten, left\u2026what?\u00a0 Since it smells so good, I\u2019ve been washing dishes like A BOSS):<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/photo-2-6.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2288 aligncenter\" alt=\"photo 2-6\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/photo-2-6.jpg?w=300\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also, in the winter I always suffer from dry and cracked heels. I\u2019ve tried everything from Aveeno to homemade foot masks, but last week, I tried Burt\u2019s Bees Coconut Foot Cream.\u00a0 Oh my goodness!\u00a0 It smells amazing (like a tropical vacation even though its 20 degrees outside) and it worked almost instantly. The bottle I have is a trial size, but I\u2019m already planning on buying the full size when I get back to Target.<\/p>\n<p>Which brings me to my next new favorite thing, since we don\u2019t have a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/6genro\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">car right now<\/a>, we\u2019ve been using Lyft to get around\u2014you know,\u00a0 those cars with pink mustaches that have been pooping up around Boston lately.\u00a0\u00a0 Lyft\u2019s motto is:\u00a0 \u201cYour friend with a car.\u201d Which has so been the case for us.\u00a0 My kids and I have received fours \u201clyfts\u201d as they call them, and every one was with a fun, super friendly driver.\u00a0 Every single of one of them greeted me with a fist bump.\u00a0 Every. Single. One.\u00a0 Of them. That\u2019s\u00a0 good people right there ;).\u00a0 The last one my kids and I took, the driver had a stick on mustache that he gave to my son, T.J.\u2014that was seriously the highlight of his night.\u00a0 If Lyft is in your city and you\u2019re interested in trying it out, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lyft.com\/invited\/osheta1\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">you can click here<\/a> and get $25 off your first ride (and full disclosure our family gets a $25 credit towards future rides).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/photo-1-6.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2285 aligncenter\" alt=\"photo 1-6\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/photo-1-6.jpg?w=225\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Books:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last month I got into Mercedes Lackey\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Five-Hundred-Kingdoms-Mercedes-Lackey\/lm\/R2SIJGIUC5ZGFH\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Five Hundred Kingdom Series.\u00a0 <\/a>I read book one, \u201cThe Fairy Godmother\u201d and book two, \u201cOne Good Knight\u201d.\u00a0 Both are excellent!\u00a0 I love interesting spins on fairy tales and in this series, Lackey does not disappoint. What I appreciate most about the books is how every heroine is strong, intelligent, and subverts the traditional Happily Ever After.<\/p>\n<p>My favorite wifey book right now is, \u201cThe Sexually Confident Wife\u201d by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shannonethridge.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Shannon Ethridge.<\/a>\u00a0 I\u2019ve read it a couple times and it\u2019s one of the best books on sex for wives.\u00a0 Shannon\u2019s writing is approachable and well-researched.\u00a0 It\u2019s like having a best friend who loves Jesus and sex write you a encouraging letter from wife to wife.\u00a0 Get this book!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Movies:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/thebutler.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2277 aligncenter\" alt=\"TheButler\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/thebutler.jpg?w=202\" width=\"202\" height=\"300\"><\/a>Ok.\u00a0 I watched \u201cThe Butler\u201d.\u00a0 A line from the movie keeps coming back to me spoken by Dr. Martin Luther King:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe black domestic play an important role in our history\u2026.Young brother, the black domestic defy racial stereotype about being hard-working and trustworthy. It slowly tears down racial hatred because it\u2019s an example of a strong work ethic and dignified character. Now while we perceive the butler to be mainly subservient, in many ways they are subversive, without even knowing it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That feels like <a href=\"http:\/\/biblehub.com\/luke\/9-48.htm\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jesus\u2019 teaching, in Luke 9 <\/a>about the least becoming the greatest. It\u2019s really resonating with me and quite possibly will become a blog post. I am something of a black domestic, I nanny for a few families and I help clean the house of a new mom twice a week, so \u201cThe Butler\u201d and that scene in particular has invited me to do a lot of soul-searching.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Websites:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.renttherunway.com\/rtr_home\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Rent the Runway<\/a> is a shopping site, where you can rent designer dresses at a fraction of the cost.\u00a0 They\u2019re like, \u201cyour best friend with a much bigger closet\u201d.\u00a0 All while the hubs is away, I\u2019ve been searching and searching through their extensive \u201ccloset\u201d and at first I was overwhelmed, until I found this feature: Our Runway.\u00a0 After you enter the right info, you can see pictures of actual customer with similar body shapes as you in their rentals!\u00a0 How cool is that!\u00a0 No more comparing ourselves to super hot, skinny models, I can actually see if that dress would look good on a woman like me.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/screen-shot-2014-02-03-at-8-22-34-am.png\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2278 aligncenter\" alt=\"Screen shot 2014-02-03 at 8.22.34 AM\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/screen-shot-2014-02-03-at-8-22-34-am.png?w=157\" width=\"157\" height=\"300\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m thinking about choosing these two dresses:<\/p>\n<p>This one for our date to a Moroccan restaurant,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tangierino.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> Tangierino.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/aqua.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2279 aligncenter\" alt=\"aqua\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/aqua.jpg?w=225\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Neither one of us have had Moroccan food, but given that our suite is Moroccan, we thought visiting a restaurant within that theme would be fun. Plus, it\u2019s rated as one of Boston\u2019s most romantic restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>And I\u2019m thinking about this one for our anniversary dinner at a jazz club.\u00a0 We got married in New Orleans (birthplace of jazz) and our colors were red and gold, so I thought this would be a fun dress with a nice gold statement necklace.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/red.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2282 aligncenter\" alt=\"red\" src=\"https:\/\/oshetablogs.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/02\/red.jpg\" width=\"550\" height=\"400\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">(note that I used pics of ACTUAL WOMEN in these dresses.\u00a0 How cool is that?\u00a0 I can\u2019t get over how Rent the Runway wants us to all have our \u201cCinderella moment\u201d in these beautiful dresses in real woman size). Plus they have this nice feature where you can chat with a personal stylist who will make suggestions based on your account. Mine suggested the red dress as my husband and I might go ice skating before dinner and she said this one would go from day to night pretty easily.\u00a0 I\u2019m totally in Rent the Runway.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, this month I\u2019m totally into my friend, Nicole\u2019s ecourse, \u201cLove and Making it: Valentine\u2019s Day Edition\u201d.\u00a0 If Shannon\u2019s book is like having a best friend who loves Jesus and sex cheer you on from the page, this class is like\u00a0 having a best friend who loves Jesus, sex, AND you, cheer you on in person.\u00a0 She sends daily, \u201cpassionals\u201d to your email, (devotionals that help us access our passion for joyful intimacy in marriage), we have a secret Facebook to process the passionals in community and once a week we have a virtual meet-up on Fuze.\u00a0 I\u2019m loving this class that at first I thought would help be find my brave in bed by accepting my body, but now, I\u2019m thankful for the sacred space to be transparent about sex that Nicole has created.\u00a0 Enrollment for this month\u2019s course is closed, but next month, Nicole is starting a spring course.\u00a0 I highly recommend enrolling
