She\u2019d draw us out, helping us give words to our thoughts and then validate our efforts to engage literature.<span>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>There were also moments when she\u2019d stand at her desk at the head of the class, proud and keen, calling us out like a hawk calls out to his pray in the field and demand us to read our short responses to the entire class.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>She\u2019d lay in on us for grammar, spelling, and sometimes, word choice.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWords have power, students!<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Use them well\u201d was one of her favorite sayings and she said it often.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Many students complained and tried to get out of her AP class, I didn\u2019t. <span>\u00a0<\/span>I loved every moment I got to spend in her eccentric presence!<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">It was around that same time that I began to think about Scripture as more than a blueprint for my life, but God\u2019s active form of communication with me.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Scriptures like, Isaiah 1:18 where God invited me to come now a reason with Him\u2013came alive! Despite my mistakes, I was considered a worthy conversation partner of the Creator of the universe.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Amazing! <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">And so a beautiful dialogue that spanned years, heartbreak, and milestones began: <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">God:<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Hey did you know I know the number of hairs on your head?<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Me: Really?<span>\u00a0 <\/span>But they\u2019re so\u2026<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">God: frustrating?<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Me: Yeah, I hate them!<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">God: Well\u2026 I don\u2019t<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Or<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">God:<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Hey\u2026 check out my servant Peter!<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Me (after reading Matthew 14:22-31):<span>\u00a0 <\/span>He walked on water!<span>\u00a0 <\/span>No way!<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">God: Totally possible with me, just don\u2019t let your fears get the best of you\u2026you\u2019ll never accomplish the great things I\u2019ve in store for you if you do.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Or <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">God: Hey I know you\u2019re worried about paying for college<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Me:<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Yeah.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>I am. <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">God: I will supply all your needs according to my riches in glory in Christ Jesus.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Me:<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Really!<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">God: Yep.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve got your covered.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">And many, many more. <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">My conversing with God was varied from quick check-ins before I rush off to school to deep times of meditations on Scripture after bedtime.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Mrs. Sparrowhawk was right.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Words do have power.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>I felt their magic when I read Frost, Alcott, Poe, and Fitzgerald, but I knew their power when I read the Bible.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Sadly, familiarity does, at times, breed contempt because those passages don\u2019t do it for me anymore. More often than not, I\u2019m ambivalent to their power\u2026sure they worked for me then\u2026but c\u2019mon God\u2026say something new.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Or if you\u2019re gonna say the same thing, say it in a new way.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Say it from a smoky stage with flashing lights, or sing it from a folksy band with a sense I style I envy, say it in a fiery woman\u2019s voice that understands my issues as a modern Christian woman or say it in a controversial blog post.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Because You and You alone aren\u2019t enough.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">I think I\u2019m not being a great listener in this conversation anymore.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Like when you\u2019re thinking about what you want to say next while your friend is talking.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Maybe I\u2019ve been thinking too much while God has been speaking to me.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">With this church plant there\u2019s tons for me to think about but that doesn\u2019t change one very important thing:<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">I miss my Wordsmith of a Savior and I need to remain in dialogue with Him.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">So this year , I resolve to create spaces for Him to transform my life and the lives of those around me with His powerful words.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Two spaces I want to explore would be to reclaim the Proverbs 31 passage as a way to encourage my friends instead of misinterpreting it as an unrealistic standard to them ( and me) and to practice contemplative prayer through using the <a href=\"http:\/\/lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Revised Common Lectionary<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Daily-God-Book-Year-Listening\/dp\/1414316062\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the daily God book<\/a>, or practicing lectio divina.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">I\u2019ll be posting in the weeks to come on re-discovering the power of God breathed words.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Hopefully they\u2019ll be words that encourage, entertain, and embolden you to know Him better in this New Year.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Thankful to God for using eccentric teachers,<\/div>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mylivesignature.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/signatures.mylivesignature.com\/54489\/180\/8AD54E2015B3E0B0C243444A2C44275C.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>taken from Justin Lee\u2019s blog\u2026<br><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family:\n\nGeorgia, serif;font-size:13px;line-height:20px;\"><em style=\"font-style:italic;\">P.S.
