I will admit, I saw the cover and thought, \u201cUt-oh. \u00a0Glass-walled church, buncha laymen cluttering up the altar . . . this can\u2019t be good.\u201d \u00a0Well, the cover is the only ishy part. \u00a0The book itself is great<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The format is simple: \u00a0words of the Mass on the left, color coded explanations on the right.<\/p>\n

They explanations are more than just the standards \u201csit, stand, kneel, listen to the priest.\u201d \u00a0They explain what \u201cepiclesis\u201d means (I\u2019ll admit, I didn\u2019t already know), what \u201ceucharist\u201d means; why we make a cross on our forehead, lips, and breast; and when we are seeing bread and wine, and when we are now seeing the real body and blood of Christ.<\/p>\n

It says \u201cfor kids,\u201d but there\u2019s no reason an adult couldn\u2019t use this missal as a guide. I suspect it was designed as a way to stealthily catechise parents who are helping their kids follow along. \u00a0Altogether nicely written and designed, easy to follow, meaty and free of fluff.<\/p>\n

The booklet is cheap \u2014 just $1.87 on Amazon<\/a> \u2014 and rather flimsy. \u00a0This means, of course, that parishes would be able to afford buying copies for everybody. \u00a0I do wish they would put out a hardcover edition so we could buy them for ourselves, though. \u00a0Anyway, if you\u2019re looking for a children\u2019s missal with the new translation of the Mass, I\u2019ve never seen a better one. \u00a0If you have the cash, you might consider buying a few hundred as a gift to your church.<\/p>\n
