It\u2019s satire, but it captures the past week of political news better than cable news:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theonion.com\/articles\/romney-proudly-explains-how-hes-turned-campaign-ar,29845\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Romney Proudly Explains How He\u2019s Turned His Campaign Around<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10696\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10696\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/52\/2012\/10\/PantsonFire.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10696\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/52\/2012\/10\/PantsonFire-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10696\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">AP photo.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For weeks many Beltway insiders had written off the Romney campaign as dead, saying the candidate had dug himself into too deep a hole with too little time to recover. However, with a month to go before ballots are cast, Romney has pulled even with President Obama, and the former Massachusetts governor credits his rejuvenated campaign to one, singular tactic: lying a lot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m lying a lot more, and my lies are far more egregious than they\u2019ve ever been,\u201d a smiling Romney told reporters while sitting in the back of his campaign bus, adding that when faced with a choice to either lie or tell the truth, he will more than likely lie. \u201cIt\u2019s a strategy that works because when I lie, I\u2019m essentially telling people what they want to hear, and people really like hearing things they want to hear. Even if they sort of know that nothing I\u2019m saying is true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a freeing strategy, really, because I don\u2019t have to worry about facts or being accurate or having any concrete positions of any kind,\u201d Romney added.<\/p>\n<p>Romney said he is telling at least 80 percent more lies now than he was two months ago. Buoyed by his strong debate performance, which by his own admission included 40 or 50 instances of lying in one 90-minute period, the candidate said he will continue to \u201cjust openly lie [his] ass off\u201d until the Nov. 6 election.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/freethoughtblogs.com\/dispatches\/2012\/10\/02\/william-murray-lies-about-obama\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Obama will move America to force doctors to assist homosexuals in buying surrogate babies<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not bad enough that it was raining and cold. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stonekettle.com\/2012\/09\/also-nazis-part-2.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Now there were Nazis too<\/a>.\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/storybones.blogspot.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>via<\/em><\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they can see President Obama as a lazy, stealing, unaccomplished, incompetent black man, <a href=\"http:\/\/wearerespectablenegroes.blogspot.com\/2012\/10\/the-rage-of-white-right-free-republics.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">how do those same white folks see me<\/a>, a bus driver, teacher, barber, doctor, attorney, home healthcare worker, or parent?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the whole deal. <a href=\"http:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/archives\/2012\/10\/this_is_what_its_about_it.php\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Romney lied through his teeth about his tax policy<\/a>, which would give huge cuts to high income earners and big increases for most middle class families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/story\/2012\/10\/04\/1139926\/-Romney-Won-Using-a-Debate-Technique-Called-the-Gish-Gallop\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Call it Etch-A-Sketch, call it the Gish Gallop, call it lies<\/a> \u2014 it\u2019s all about the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/politics\/2012\/10\/04\/958801\/at-last-nights-debate-romney-told-27-myths-in-38-minutes\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Romney spoke for 38 minutes of the 90-minute debate and told at least 27 myths<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m hoping a President Romney will see the House GOP as labor. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2012\/10\/05\/romney-s-ironic-sense-of-salesmanship.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Then they\u2019re really f\u2014ed<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApproximately <a href=\"http:\/\/thenewcivilrightsmovement.com\/one-in-ten-americans-think-pbs-gets-a-third-or-more-of-the-entire-federal-budget\/politics\/2012\/10\/06\/50504\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">one in ten Americans wrongly believe PBS and its parent, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, gets about a third or even half of the entire federal budget<\/a> annually.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRomney, reading a prepared text from a teleprompter \u2026 said President Obama \u2018has not signed one new free trade agreement,\u2019 despite the fact <a href=\"http:\/\/maddowblog.msnbc.com\/_news\/2012\/10\/08\/14298406-romneys-lazy-mendacity-on-obama-trade-agreements\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">that\u2019s blatantly, demonstrably untrue<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it comes to lies and half-truths, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/news_and_politics\/politics\/2012\/10\/mitt_romney_foreign_policy_speech_at_the_virginia_military_institute_was_the_most_dishonest_one_he_has_delivered_yet_.single.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Romney saves his best stuff for foreign policy<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/roboromney.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mitt Romney agrees with you<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/maddowblog.msnbc.com\/_news\/2012\/10\/05\/14246577-chronicling-mitts-mendacity-vol-xxxvii\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Chronicling Mitt\u2019s Mendacity, Vol. XXXVII<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/research\/2012\/10\/01\/a-history-of-dishonest-fox-charts\/190225\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">A History of Dishonest Fox Charts<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a strategy that works because when I lie, I\u2019m essentially telling people what they want to hear, and people really like hearing things they want to hear.
