We&#8217;re here to stay&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Of Monsters and Men Perform &#039;King And Lionheart&#039; | Billboard Tastemakers Session\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CK-a_fX3_AE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p><p>\u201cIt\u2019s offensive to me <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wtjblog.com\/2013\/01\/14\/good-bye-her-meneutics\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">as a Christian, as a woman, and as someone with a brain<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYears of irrefutable scientific evidence go down the drain, when we right-wing Catholics (or evangelicals, like the ones running Hobby Lobby and Mardel) need\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bilgrimage.blogspot.com\/2012\/12\/droppings-from-catholic-birdcage-i-am.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">to prove that women are primarily baby machines<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFather Piero Corsi of Liguria said in a Christmas bulletin that the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/rs\/2012\/12\/30\/italian-women-protest-misogynistic-priest-violence-against-women-an-emergency\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">rise in domestic violence in Italy was caused by women<\/a>\u00a0serving cold food, not looking after their children, not cleaning their home, acting arrogant, and dressing provocatively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve noticed that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.somuchshoutingsomuchlaughter.com\/2013\/01\/privilege-emerging-church.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">people\u2019s interest in discussing or accounting for privilege may be inversely proportional to the amount they possess<\/a>. Which can be sort of a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/52\/2013\/01\/VAWA.gif\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-13028\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/52\/2013\/01\/VAWA-300x300.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\"><\/a>\u201cWomen are empowered in the religious wing of conservative thought \u2013\u0094\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christiancentury.org\/blogs\/archive\/2013-01\/empowered-women-relgious-right\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">which seems to be more than religious progressives are doing<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProponents of the [Violence Against Women Act] hope to revive the law in the new Congress, starting from scratch, but in the meantime, there will be\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/maddowblog.msnbc.com\/_news\/2013\/01\/02\/16305284-house-gop-blocks-violence-against-women-act?lite\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">far fewer resources available for state and local governments to combat domestic violence<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo matter how broad the bipartisan support,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/rs\/2013\/01\/02\/gop-obstruction-kills-18-year-old-violence-against-women-act\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">no matter who gets hurt in the process<\/a>, the politics of the right wing of their party always comes first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe primary\u00a0<em>stated<\/em>\u00a0rationale for the House GOP\u2019s opposition to a Senate-passed version of the VAWA (as opposed to less seemly, muted rationales involving a general hostility to feminism in any form) was an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonmonthly.com\/political-animal-a\/2013_01\/cold_war_on_women042163.php\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">objection to the extension of rights to people in LGBT couples \u2014 who presumably deserve whatever they get after defying God\u2019\u0080\u0099s Law \u2013\u0080\u0094 undocumented folk, and Native Americans<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe modesty doctrine revolves around\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/phoenixandolivebranch\/2012\/06\/modesty-body-policing-and-rape-culture\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">the assumption that a man has a right to sex<\/a>\u00a0with every woman he finds attractive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/yesmeansyesblog.wordpress.com\/2013\/01\/14\/dear-gmp-no-you-may-not\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">I can\u2019t put a lot of faith in your good faith<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo here I am, days away from my son\u2019s sixth birthday, thinking about how\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefrisky.com\/2013-01-03\/the-soapbox-on-steubenville-high-school-teaching-boys-not-to-rape\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">we need to teach our boys not to rape, instead of cautioning our daughters on how not to get raped<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/wonkblog\/wp\/2013\/01\/04\/the-breast-pump-industry-is-booming-thanks-to-obamacare\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a medical service that is advantageous for both women and babies<\/a>, so we thought it should be seriously considered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast month a woman whose baby had died en utero was coming to the clinic to have it removed. In an awful coincidence, that was the day, Watters said, when the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonmonthly.com\/political-animal-a\/2013_01\/happy_birthday_dead_baby_and_o042506.php\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">pro-life demonstrators collected a children\u2019s choir on the sidewalk to sing \u2018Happy Birthday Dead Baby\u2019<\/a> to anyone driving in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have found the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhrealitycheck.org\/blog\/2009\/06\/02\/thirdtrimester-abortions-facts-stories-and-how-you-can-help-0\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">misunderstanding about late-term abortion to be widespread<\/a> even among many of those in the public health advocacy community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDevelopments in women\u2019s health care were disseminated via a national game of political telephone, with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/xx_factor\/2012\/12\/27\/legitimate_rape_rush_limbaugh_and_voting_while_menstuating_the_most_outrageous.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">information about our menstrual cycles, contraceptive options, and pregnancies filtered through the fuzzy interpretation of conservative talk show hosts, religious officials, and candidates for public office<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMedical and other experts say <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/01\/05\/health\/pregnancy-centers-gain-influence-in-anti-abortion-fight.html?emc=eta1&amp;_r=0\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">some dispense scientifically flawed informatio<\/a>n, exaggerating abortion\u2019s risks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy real problem, here, is that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elizabethesther.com\/2013\/01\/giving-our-men-their-balls-back-um-what-also-ew.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">harmful books like these are still popular in Christian circles<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re screening partners for how good they are at modeling future behavior, date statisticians.
