A militant homosexual activist is a homosexual who acts like there isn\u2019t anything wrong with being a homosexual.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I wonder if this perhaps applies to other terms as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">A militant feminist is a woman who doesn\u2019t think there is anything wrong with being a woman.\u00a0 A militant feminist activist is a woman who acts like there isn\u2019t anything wrong with being a woman.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 In a similar vein to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/slacktivist\/2013\/03\/05\/the-adults-who-taught-and-encouraged-this-are-guilty-of-child-abuse\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">that dismaying anti-gay \u201crap\u201d video<\/a> we discussed earlier this week, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dohiyimir.org\/2013\/03\/hear-the-children-cryin.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">NTodd relays a report<\/a> that the Gaede twins \u2014 once better known as the white supremacist pop duo Prussian Blue \u2014 have renounced the racism they used to sing about. The girls blame their mother for indoctrinating them into the \u201chome-schooled country bumpkins\u201d who recorded that hate-filled music.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theveryworstmissionary.com\/2013\/03\/because-i-owe-you-one.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jamie the Very Worst Missionary<\/a> has a good addition to our discussion of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/slacktivist\/2013\/02\/20\/i-do-in-fact-care-who-started-it\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Stupid Things Adults Say to Children<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I can distinctly remember being called out by a teacher for giving a Ritz cracker to a friend. She said, loudly, \u201cJamie, will you be giving\u00a0<em>everyone<\/em>\u00a0a cracker?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I believe I looked up at her with all the innocence of a 7-year-old, and thought, \u201cThis teacher is so effing stupid. I\u2019m holding <em>three<\/em> crackers in a sandwich bag. How could I\u00a0<em>possibly<\/em>\u00a0have enough for everyone?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And then she made my friend give the cracker back! A 30-Year History<\/a>\u201d There is nothing new under the sun.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The Consumerist reposts a classic primer on a key strategic tool for consumers: \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/consumerist.com\/2007\/05\/11\/how-to-launch-an-executive-email-carpet-bomb\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">How to Launch an Executive Email Carpet Bomb<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 I would just like to say that Malaysia is awesome and that the president and\/or prime minister is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I\u2019ve ever known in my life.<\/p>\n<p><em>What\u2019s that?<\/em> It\u2019s too late to get in on <a href=\"http:\/\/wonkette.com\/503837\/heroic-right-wing-columnists-taking-malaysian-bribe-money-is-that-not-ok\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the Malaysian payola gravy train that those write-for-hire right-wing bloggers got rich on<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Oh. Well, in that case, never mind.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsfromme.com\/2013\/03\/03\/todays-video-link-1350\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mark Evanier posts a video of the odd magician Tom Mullica<\/a>. Mullica, as Evanier says, \u201cdid bizarre things with cigarettes. I don\u2019t think anyone\u2019s doing this kind of thing today and with good reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>True. As Mullica himself says of his act, \u201cIt\u2019s not how, but <em>why?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve got an old instructional video of Mullica\u2019s around here somewhere that I bought back in the day when I got cast as the devil in <em>Damn Yankees.<\/em> He was a big help in coping with a script that included such otherwise-unexplained stage directions as \u201cpulls a lit cigarette from thin air.\u201d No asterisk, no notes in the back of the script explaining <em>how<\/em> one does this. Just the simple direction that, on cue, you as an actor must reach into the air in front of you and pluck a lit cigarette out of nowhere.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 John Fea posts a nice <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philipvickersfithian.com\/2013\/02\/johnny-cash-sings-at-billy-graham.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">video of the Man in Black singing at a 1971 Billy Graham revival<\/a> at Texas Stadium. Fea writes: \u201cOnly Johnny Cash could get away with singing songs about hangovers, wishing he was \u2018stoned,\u2019 and shooting a man \u2018in Reno just to watch him die\u2019 and then follow that up with a performance at a Billy Graham crusade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yep. And the great thing is that whether it was \u201cFolsom Prison Blues\u201d or \u201cPeace in the Valley,\u201d you <em>believed<\/em> every word.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Paul McKinley is \u201ca convicted felon who served <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/local\/ct-met-2nd-district-republican-nominee-20130228,0,3550456.story\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">nearly 20 years in state prison for burglaries, armed robberies and aggravated battery<\/a>.\u201d He\u2019s also the apparent winner of the Republican primary for a special election to fill the U.S. House seat vacated by former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The candidate has not shied away from his arrest record during the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m the ex-offender trying to save the next offender \u2026\u201d McKinley said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If McKinley loses his House race, I\u2019d urge him to run for Illinois governor. Since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/01\/30\/illinois-governors-in-pri_n_2581182.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">four out of the last seven of the state\u2019s governors have ended up in prison<\/a>, I think it would be refreshing to have someone pay their debt to society <em>first<\/em>, and then head to the governor\u2019s mansion, instead of the other way around.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leftovers from the week that was, including: Some handy definitions from Bruce;
