Hear this, all you peoples;
\ngive ear, all inhabitants of the world,
\nboth low and high,
\nrich and poor together.
\nMy mouth shall speak wisdom;
\nthe meditation of my heart shall be understanding.
\nI will incline my ear to a proverb;
\nI will solve my riddle to the music of the harp.<\/p>\n
Why should I fear in times of trouble,
\nwhen the iniquity of my persecutors surrounds me,
\nthose who trust in their wealth
\nand boast of the abundance of their riches?
\nTruly, no ransom avails for one\u2019s life,
\nthere is no price one can give to God for it.
\nFor the ransom of life is costly,
\nand can never suffice,
\nthat one should live on for ever
\nand never see the grave.<\/p>\n
When we look at the wise, they die;
\nfool and dolt perish together
\nand leave their wealth to others.
\nTheir graves are their homes for ever,
\ntheir dwelling-places to all generations,
\nthough they named lands their own.
\nMortals cannot abide in their pomp;
\nthey are like the animals that perish.<\/p>\n
Such is the fate of the foolhardy,
\nthe end of those who are pleased with their lot.
\nSelah<\/em>
\nLike sheep they are appointed for Sheol;
\nDeath shall be their shepherd;
\nstraight to the grave they descend,
\nand their form shall waste away;
\nSheol shall be their home.
\nBut God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol,
\nfor he will receive me.
\nSelah<\/em><\/p>\nDo not be afraid when some become rich,
\nwhen the wealth of their houses increases.
\nFor when they die they will carry nothing away;
\ntheir wealth will not go down after them.
\nThough in their lifetime they count themselves happy

\nthey will go to the company of their ancestors,
\nwho will never again see the light.
