It finds that the result will be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/wonkblog\/wp\/2013\/06\/04\/wonkbook-the-terrible-deal-for-states-rejecting-medicaid\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">they get $8.4 billion less in federal funding, have to spend an extra $1 billion in uncompensated care, and end up with about 3.6 million fewer insured residents<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15734\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15734\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.godecookery.com\/macabre\/gallery4\/macbr113.htm\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-15734  \" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/52\/2013\/06\/Lazarus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"462\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15734\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cDives in Hell and Lazarus in Heaven\u201d (1510)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI wonder whether even Republicans really believe that story \u2014 or at least are confident enough in their diagnosis to justify <a href=\"http:\/\/crooksandliars.com\/susie-madrak\/krugman-time-get-really-really-angry\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">policies that more or less literally take food from the mouths of hungry children<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Meals on Wheels]\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/economy\/2013\/06\/06\/2117571\/meals-on-wheels-slashes-services-and-adds-waiting-lists-thanks-to-sequestration\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">programs that serve the elderly stand to see\u00a0$41 million in federal funding cut<\/a>, resulting in as many as 19 million fewer meals served.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seems to me <a href=\"http:\/\/wonkette.com\/517600\/kansas-genius-if-we-cut-taxes-on-groceries-people-will-just-buy-food-all-the-time\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">we are encouraging the behavior of purchasing food<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir first exposure to the project, they said, was when the tenants in the church\u2019s properties were told their <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.chicagotribune.com\/2013-06-06\/news\/ct-tl-arlington-heights-church-lot-meeting-20130606_1_hickory-meadows-community-group-parking-lot-plan-church-officials\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">rental homes were being vacated to make way for the future parking lot<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.redletterchristians.org\/the-irrelevance-of-jesus-foodstamps-congress-bible\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Useless military expenditures are being supported by Christian politicians<\/a> while real human needs are being treated as concerns that are not appropriate for the government to address.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf not for two years of deficit reduction, <a href=\"http:\/\/prospect.org\/article\/deficit-reduction-ruining-america\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">1.5 million more Americans would be employed<\/a>, and the economy would be growing fast enough to lower joblessness at a steady clip.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to low wages and few benefits, Walmart workers at a single 300-person Supercenter store\u00a0rely on <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/economy\/2013\/06\/07\/2120711\/walmarts-low-wages-cost-taxpayers-millions-each-year\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">anywhere from $904,542 to $1,744,590 in public benefits per year<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho gets <a href=\"http:\/\/consumerist.com\/2013\/05\/16\/wells-fargo-forecloses-on-homeowner-who-made-payments-too-early\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">foreclosed on when they\u2019ve made all payments on time<\/a>?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s now a strong <a href=\"http:\/\/grist.org\/article\/tough-spot-for-farmers-adapting-to-change-you-cant-believe-in\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">economic incentive to stop denying the reality of climate change<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only way for even a putative meritocracy to hope to pass ethical muster, to be considered fair, is if <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/business\/archive\/2013\/06\/ben-bernanke-to-princeton-grads-the-world-isnt-fair-and-you-all-got-lucky\/276471\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">those who are the luckiest in all of those respects also have the greatest responsibility<\/a> to work hard, to contribute to the betterment of the world, and to share their luck with
