The bad news is this is more temporary, short-term, stop-gap solutions, so we\u2019ll be doing all of this again in a few months.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/exploringourmatrix\/2013\/10\/evolution-and-ecclesiastes.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-18484\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/52\/2013\/10\/AllAreFromDust-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\"><\/a>2.<\/strong> Congratulations to <a href=\"http:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/news\/cory-booker-rolls-to-victory-in-new-jersey-senate-race\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> An Australian human rights group just published its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-24560937\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Global Slavery Index 2013<\/a>, estimating that about 30 million people live in some form of slavery worldwide. That figure includes \u201cdebt bondage, forced marriage and human trafficking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> Dianna E. That doesn\u2019t seem fair. (And I\u2019m still upset that Fox TV had Fry guest starring on <em>Bones<\/em> without ever having him on <em>House, MD.<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.<\/strong> The Amish Jihadist on \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/theotherjournal.com\/amishjihadi\/2013\/10\/15\/why-first-things-still-sucks\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Why <em>First Things<\/em> Still Sucks<\/a>\u201c: \u201cAt least criticize what we actually argue rather than some inane straw man we torched centuries ago. \u2026 That was a shitty article to write and you should know better.\u201d Tripp\u2019s complaint is obviously unfair. What we are witnessing today are individuals who already receive government health-care handouts attempting to prevent others from obtaining similar (but smaller in aggregate amount) health-care subsidies, as well. And as a group, today\u2019s recipients of government health-care subsidies are better off to begin with than are those they wish to exclude.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u00a0So today, 140 million Americans (including members of Congress) directly receive government subsidies when they get health-care coverage through their employers. The Affordable Care Act extends government health-care subsidies to millions of other Americans, but for administrative reasons delivers the subsidy through a different mechanism. But so what?
