Did you guess the sanctimonious religious type who demonizes others in a desperate attempt to pretend they\u2019re holy?<\/p>\n<p>Because that, it turns out, is the kind of jerk who does this jerky thing. Because \u201creligious liberty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> Also from Consumerist: \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/consumerist.com\/2013\/10\/24\/americans-racking-up-debt-faster-than-we-save-for-retirement\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Americans Racking Up Debt Faster Than We Save for Retirement<\/a>.\u201d A new study finds that 60 percent of American households are accumulating debt faster than retirement savings. (What are these \u201cretirement savings\u201d you speak of?)<\/p>\n<p>This is news to the researchers conducting this study, but it\u2019s not news, of course, to 60 percent of American households, except maybe the news that what is true for them is true for three-fifths of the rest of the country. Or maybe the news that life is somehow <em>not<\/em> like this for about two fifths of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Jubilee. We await the year of God\u2019s favor. It really is our only hope.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> Spoiler Alert: <a href=\"http:\/\/splitframeofreference.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/mark-driscoll-pacifism-cross-of-christ.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mark Driscoll\u2019s Jesus is Tyler Durden<\/a>, which means \u2026. <em>OMG!<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18638\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18638\" style=\"width: 563px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/splitframeofreference.blogspot.com\/2013\/10\/mark-driscoll-pacifism-cross-of-christ.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-18638\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/52\/2013\/10\/Spoiler.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"563\" height=\"360\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18638\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cWhy do people think that I\u2019m you? Answer me! Why do people think that I\u2019m you?\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> Here\u2019s Scot McKnight discussing Claude Mariottini\u2019s discussion of one of my favorite biblical idioms: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jesuscreed\/2013\/09\/18\/him-that-pisseth-against-the-wall\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">any that pisseth against the wall<\/a>.\u201d They argue that something meaningful is lost when this phrase gets sanitized into a polite, neutral euphemism for \u201cmales.\u201d I enjoyed this discussion for the same silly reasons I enjoyed all those \u201cpisseth against the wall\u201d verses when I was a kid in KJV-only fundie circles, but there\u2019s a more serious point here too. The biblical writers knew the word for \u201cmales\u201d and \u2014 in these instances \u2014 they <em>chose not to use it.<\/em> Ignoring that rude choice, or contradicting it, disregards and disrespects the text. Yet because this disregard and disrespect is based on a notion of \u201cinspiration\u201d that plays down the human agency of the biblical writers, it\u2019s inaccurately referred to as a \u201chigh view of scripture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.<\/strong> Corporations may be powers and principalities, but the legal agreement creating them does not breathe into them a living soul:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>By incorporating his business, Potter voluntarily forfeited his rights to bring individual actions for alleged corporate injuries in exchange for the liability and financial protections otherwise afforded him by utilization of the corporate form.
