That worked so well in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 As <a href=\"http:\/\/chrisstedman.religionnews.com\/2014\/06\/23\/tim-lambesis-atheism-christianity\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Chris Stedman says<\/a>, rocker Tim Lambesis did not try to murder his ex-wife because he was a Christian or because he was an atheist. Tim Lambesis tried to hire a hit-man to murder his ex-wife because Tim Lambesis is a misogynist asshole.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 This is <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShaneyIrene\/status\/484067025153556480\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a familiar, common story here outside the gates<\/a>. It\u2019s getting kind of crowded out here:<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShaneyIrene\/status\/484067025153556480*<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShaneyIrene\/status\/484067025153556480\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">fascinating series of tweets yesterday by Shaney Irene<\/a> about the transition from the disingenuous prison of performative pro-liferism to something more honest.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s better out here. Let\u2019s go back and get the others.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/rs\/2014\/06\/28\/video-shows-arizona-cops-violent-attack-on-black-professor-who-got-charged-with-assault\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">video shows Arizona police body-slamming an Arizona State professor<\/a> before charging <em>her<\/em> with \u201cassault\u201d after stopping her for jaywalking while black. The video is remarkable not just because it reveals the arbitrary, lawless violence that local officials say is \u201cnothing inappropriate,\u201d but because during the video you can also see white pedestrians \u201cjaywalking\u201d<em>\u00a0on the same street<\/em>\u00a0in the background.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/erik-wemple\/wp\/2014\/06\/27\/stephen-colbert-examines-the-conspiracy-theory-of-fox-newss-keith-ablow\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Stephen Colbert<\/a>, among others, has accurately ridiculed the Fox News conspiracy theory that claims President Obama somehow staged the 2014 World Cup \u2014 the existence of the event itself \u2014 in order to distract the public from all of the \u201coverwhelmingly negative\u201d news about his presidency.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it would be utterly bonkers if Fox News really believed such time-traveling nonsense, but that\u2019s not what they\u2019re doing. The point of their conspiracy theories is not to persuade anyone that such devious machinations are taking place to distract the public from the \u201coverwhelmingly negative\u201d news about Obama. The point is to provide a vehicle for repeating over and over the assertion that Obama\u2019s presidency has been \u201coverwhelmingly negative.\u201d If they had something of overwhelmingly negative substance to report, they\u2019d do so.
