It\u2019s kind of hilarious, then, to see that some guy is now suing the screenwriters and Lionsgate, claiming they plagiarized from his self-published horror novel \u2026 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.curtisweyant.com\/blog\/cabin-in-the-woods-lawsuit-legit-or-lame\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">because he used many of t<em>he same stale tropes and hackneyed clich\u00e9s<\/em><\/a> the movie deconstructs. (<a href=\"http:\/\/whedonesque.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Via<\/em> Whedonesque<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Let me add my personal anecdotal affirmation to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eschatonblog.com\/2015\/04\/almost-forgot.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Atrios\u2019 personal anecdotal observation<\/a>. He writes, \u201cO<span style=\"color: #000000\">nce a judge legalized same sex marriage in Pennsylvania \u2026 everybody just stopped talking about it.\u201d Pretty much. The sky did not fall and this already seems like ancient history. In terms of state politics, at least, no one seems determined\u00a0to turn back the clock.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Right-wing culture warrior Daniel Lapin doesn\u2019t like American liberals or Islamist extremists. But <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rightwingwatch.org\/content\/daniel-lapin-liberals-want-have-sex-islamic-extremists\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Lapin\u00a0seems to find the Islamists irresistibly <em>\u201cmasculine<\/em><\/a><em>.\u201d <\/em>Lapin\u2019s explanation for why feminists love Sharia law is just as weirdly delusional as his contention that<em> feminists love Sharia law.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_27681\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27681\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bilgrimage.blogspot.com\/2015\/04\/droppings-from-catholic-birdcage-who.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-27681 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/52\/2015\/04\/LCWR-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"LCWR\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27681\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Delegates from the Leadership Conference of Women Religious visit the Iron Bank of Braavos.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/friendlyatheist\/2015\/04\/16\/kosherswitch-a-loophole-for-orthodox-jews-who-think-they-cant-turn-electricity-onoff-on-the-sabbath\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Hemant Mehta is appropriately bewildered by the newly invented KosherSwitch<\/a> \u2014 a device that allows Orthodox Jews to turn electric lights on and off on the Sabbath while very, very technically not breaking the very, very technical commandment their tradition says forbids them to do so. This is the end game of any form of rule- or commandment-based ethics \u2014 loopholes that honor the rules only circuitously, by allowing them to be violated through obscure technicalities.<\/p>\n<p>I hope my friend the Friendly Atheist won\u2019t be offended when I say that his reaction to the KosherSwitch is rather Pauline (in a good way). This is pretty close to\u00a0what Galatians is all about.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/horizondream.wordpress.com\/2015\/04\/14\/guys-guys-you-totally-have-to-check-this-out\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Guys! Guys! You Totally Have to Check This Out!<\/a>\u201d Matthew Keville writes, directing our attention to <a href=\"http:\/\/abookofcreatures.com\/author\/abookofcreatures\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">A Book of Creatures<\/a> \u2014 a bestiary blog of monsters from folklore. This is me seconding what he said.<\/p>\n<p>Consider, for example, the <a href=\"http:\/\/abookofcreatures.com\/2015\/03\/19\/boongurunguru\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Boongurunguru<\/a>\u00a0of the Solomon Islands. It\u2019s part of the regional flood myth \u2014 which includes an ark and a rainbow. The similarities to other ancient flood myths clearly indicate, then, that these are all references to an actual historical event and that the Boongurunguru really exists. Anyone who says otherwise <em>hates the Bible.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Paul Davidson continues exploring the tantalizing puzzle of the synoptic problem, this time looking at the <a href=\"https:\/\/isthatinthebible.wordpress.com\/2015\/04\/16\/did-luke-know-and-use-matthew-the-parable-of-the-talentspounds-as-a-test-case\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">different versions of a parable told by both Matthew and Luke<\/a>, but not Mark. Did Luke copy Matthew? Did Matthew copy Luke? Did they both copy from Q? Or from Marcion\u2019s Evangelion? Or from a possible proto-Luke?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll say it again: The synoptic problem is just plain <em>fun<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Kudos to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.religionnews.com\/2015\/04\/15\/tennessee-attorney-general-bible-cant-official-state-book\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Tennessee\u2019s Attorney General Herbert Slatery III<\/a> for saying this, \u201cI am quite confident that the Bible\u2019s distinguished place in history will not be diminished in the absence of a state\u2019s endorsement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Slatery also noted that the bill state legislators are pushing to make the Bible the state\u2019s \u201cofficial book\u201d would be unconstitutional, as Tennessee\u2019s constitution says \u201cno preference shall ever be given, by law, to any religious establishment or mode of worship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So the Bible cannot legally join the Volunteer State\u2019s other official honorees, such as the official state amphibian (the cave salamander) and the official state tree (the tulip poplar). I\u2019m not clear about Tennessee\u2019s official state song, though. It\u2019s \u201cThe Tennessee Waltz\u201d \u2014 but I\u2019m not sure if that means the classic Patti Page song or the song-within-the-song to which her old friend danced with her sweetheart.
