Mulhern\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/Resources\/Additional-Resources\/Lent-FAQ-Kathleen-Mulhern-02-21-2012.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Lent FAQ<\/a>\u201d at Patheos).<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s time to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seedsofchange.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">plan out the garden<\/a> and plot out the plot.<\/p>\n<p>And in Florida, grown men practice fielding bunts, working now so they can play later.<\/p>\n<p>While some teams begin spring training with exciting new free agents or rookie phenoms, my beloved Mets didn\u2019t upgrade much from the team that finished 77-85 last year. They lost star shortstop Jose Reyes \u2014 but on the plus-side, <a href=\"http:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/mlb\/news;_ylt=AhEA12ASlV01i9BR7nOP08cRvLYF?slug=ap-mets-niesesnose\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">pitcher Jon Niese has a new nose<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But still it\u2019s February, a time for hope even if we can\u2019t find much basis for it beyond the flimsiest premise. Mets fan Joe Dorish asks, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/mlb\/news?slug=ycn-10979110\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Can Daniel Muno Be the Jeremy Lin of the New York Mets?<\/a>\u201d The reasonable, rational answer is \u201cNo.\u201d And it\u2019s not a good sign when fans are pinning their hopes on an eighth-round draft pick who hasn\u2019t yet played above A ball.<\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019ll be plenty of time later on for such reasonable, rational pessimism. Right now it\u2019s early February and anything is still possible. So right now I\u2019ll join Dorish in dreaming of what might be.
