But unlike many askers of rude questions, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnr.com\/blog\/timothy-noah\/102494\/mike-wallace-1918-2012\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Wallace often got pretty interesting answers<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cUsing Satan as an explanation for everything you personally do not like is not only theologically problematic, it is also terribly dangerous. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christiancentury.org\/reviews\/2012-03\/devils-ink-jeffrey-c-pugh-and-devil-wears-nada-tripp-york\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">It opens the door to the rampant demonization of other people<\/a> \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cTwo Latino immigrants \u2026 were shot last night when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/blog\/2012\/04\/09\/camo-clad-men-said-to-kill-two-undocumented-immigrants-in-arizona\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a group of men wearing camouflage ambushed their pickup truck<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cTheir persecution drove the great theologian and linguist Roger Williams to flee the Massachusetts Bay Colony and establish Providence Plantations \u2014 now Rhode Island \u2014 where, as he envisioned it, \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/wthrockmorton.com\/2012\/04\/09\/pittsburgh-post-gazette-america-a-christian-nation\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the most paganish, Jewish, Turkish [Muslim] or antichristian consciences and worships\u2019 could live together in liberty<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.religionnews.com\/blogs\/mark-silk\/bad-douthat\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mark Silk 1, Ross Douthat 0<\/a>.<\/p>\n\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/americancreation.blogspot.com\/2012\/04\/founding-fathers-and-abortion-in.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">An historic perspective should teach us humility if nothing else<\/a>.\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/azspot.net\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">via<\/em><\/a>)<\/p>\n\u201cIf you don\u2019t want to be thought of as a bigot, <a href=\"http:\/\/offthekuff.com\/wp\/?p=44439\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">you should try to avoid talking like one<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/offthekuff.com\/wp\/?p=44384\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Some day we will all look back on this and wonder what the opponents of marriage equality were thinking<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.happyplace.com\/15065\/guy-comes-out-of-closet-on-facebook-to-friends-entirely-too-geeky-to-care\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">It takes a lot of guts to post things on a plain HTML page these days<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cLaws such as Alabama\u2019s HB 56 and federal enforcement measures such as 287g have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhrealitycheck.org\/article\/2012\/04\/06\/war-on-immigrant-women\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">injected fear and anguish into even the most routine aspects of many women\u2019s daily lives<\/a>: going to work or taking kids to school, or seeing the doctor.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cDrug safety, vaccines, antibiotics and reproductive medicine \u2014 all <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/matthewherper\/2012\/04\/04\/americas-gardasil-problem-how-politics-poisons-public-health\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">have become proxies for the culture war<\/a>, often tripping up public health in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cClimate change provokes such visceral arguments because it allows ancient battles \u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yaleclimatemediaforum.org\/2012\/04\/some-climate-scientists-make-overtures-to-their-critics\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">about personal responsibility, state intervention, the regulation of industry, the distribution of resources and wealth, or the role of technologies in society<\/a> \u2014 to be fought all over again.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cA usually reliable source of workers, the local government-financed job center, could offer little help, because the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/04\/09\/business\/economy\/federal-funds-to-train-jobless-are-drying-up.html?&pagewanted=all\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">federal money that local officials had designated to help train drivers was already exhausted<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u201cFour months ago we couldn\u2019t even get a gig in our own home town.\u201d \u201cPeople are commemorating Mike Wallace\u2019s death at 93 by quoting his entertainingly rude questions.
