I mean, these are our brothers in Christ, so we\u2019re supposed to be charitable and civil and to give them every benefit of the doubt.<\/p>\n<p>So, yeah, OK, the \u201cpenetrates, conquers, colonizes\u201d vision of sex is pretty horrifying \u2014 but Wilson insists he\u2019s not defending rape. Well, not in <em>this<\/em> century, anyway. \u2026 I mean, he defends American slavery, and that means he defends rape, torture and kidnapping. But only, like, back in the 19th century. And only to <em>some<\/em> people.<\/p>\n<p>Now, granted, that all <em>sounds<\/em> very, very bad. \u2026 It sounds appalling, actually.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, if you think about it, it sounds rather like the very <em>definition<\/em> of soulless evil.<\/p>\n<p><em>Hmmm.<\/em> So maybe we <em>should<\/em> come right out and \u2026<\/p>\n<p>No, no, never mind. Banish that thought! We mustn\u2019t forget that these are our <em>brothers in Christ!<\/em> And I have been assured that this means we must grant a magically inexhaustible supply of benefit-of-the-doubt for whatever appalling things these brothers in Christ may say.<\/p>\n<p>And besides, it\u2019s not like anybody from this Gospel Coalition is out there defending <em>genocide<\/em>, right?<\/p>\n<p>There you go, see? Voila! They <em>must<\/em> be good people because, like all good people, they\u2019re opposed to genocide, and \u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 Wait \u2026 <em>what?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2026 No, <em>seriously?<\/em> \u2026 Come <em>on<\/em>, now you\u2019re just messing with \u2014<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/peterenns\/2012\/07\/john-piper-on-why-its-right-for-god-to-slaughter-women-and-children-anytime-he-pleases-and-why-i-have-some-major-problems-with-that\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Oh for the love of God!<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Honestly, what is <em>wrong<\/em> with these people?<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OK, so Doug Wilson promotes a vision of sex that seems designed to create a victim-blaming culture of rape, and he\u2019s an apologist for American slavery.
