Get ready for the barrage of politically divisive commercials for the upcoming Super Bowl. There\u2019s nothing better than being lectured about social justice when you\u2019re trying to watch 300-lb athletes pound each other into a fine dust.<\/p>\n

Enter Budweiser, which just released its 60-second spot on the immigration story of Adolphus Busch; perfectly timed with President Trump\u2019s executive order, though the beer company swears it\u2019s just a \u201ccoincidence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marketing vice president Ricardo Marques told Adweek<\/a> that though the ad is \u201csuper relevant\u201d to what\u2019s going on in the nation, \u201cThere\u2019s really no correlation.\u201d It\u2019s \u201ca universal story,\u201d Marques added. That of Adolphus making the terrifying journey to America in the 1850s without a dime and only drive, ambition, and a dream to brew beer and build a successful life.<\/p>\n

But Marques is lying by suggesting this wasn\u2019t perfectly timed to coincide with the new administration. I\u2019m not buying it. In the commercial, the immigrant steps off the boat and is immediately met with shouts of disapproval \u2014 \u201cYou\u2019re not wanted here!\u201d and \u201cGo back home!\u201d Tell me those aren\u2019t the words every Democrat\u00a0believes Trump supporters are muttering under their breath. Please.<\/p>\n

And Budweiser got something else wrong, too. The story they tell has nothing, I repeat, NOTHING to do with refugees and opening our borders to potential terrorists. Adolphus Busch came here to make beer, not bombs. His is indeed a \u201cuniversal story\u201d for those immigrants who\u2019ve come here legally.<\/p>\n

So, if Budweiser did intend on condemning Trump\u2019s refugee \u201cban\u201d through this commercial, they failed miserably.<\/p>\n
